Collected Possibilities

This is the story of the day I was sent to The Ranch.

Sometimes there are crystal clear moments, inflection points, where it's obvious and undeniable that nothing will ever be the same. My eight months living in New Mexico, at the San Cristobal Ranch Academy - a program for 'troubled teens' - was my personal Crisis: there was a Jason before, and a Jason after, and they were not the same.

The morning I was sent away is etched into my memory, and the experience has given me a unique perspective on how fragile the ice every one of us is living on top of actually is.

Today we're serving: Everything in an Instant

This is a story about PDA in front of an unlikely audience.

It's a classic story - a meet cute in a math class, sparks delayed by pre-existing relationships, only to reconnect later when you're both single. Or are they?

I can't hardly wait for you to hear this college time capsule about shooting your shot in the world before social media. Please welcome one of my oldest friends, the sensational Ami to The Slice, with a deep cut from his time in Madison, WI and an unlikely defense of the state of Ohio.

This is a story about how having faith can attract new friends.

We're rolling into the weekend with Professional Wrestler and current 1CW Tag Team Champion, The Ranchhand Shawn Carlson! This story was inspired by an early episode of The Slice, "He Can't Have Me," where I was propositioned by several different people looking to convert and take me into Jesus' loving arms.

In this one, a newly married Ranchhand was spending some quality time with his blushing bride in Atlantic City, when they were approached by another couple, seemingly looking to bond over his cross necklace.

We welcome Professional Wrestler, current WDWA Tag Team Champion, and my pal "The Exile" Zakar Shah to the Slice! This is a story of trauma and tail wags.

If you're a dog person, this one is definitely for you. The jury is still out for me, though. My girlfriend wants a pet, and I'm on the fence. To get me acclimated to the idea, we've taken two rescue dogs out on day trips to very different results. Can a boy who grew up scared of dogs grow to love them?

This is a story of carbs and kindness.

Over the course of the last five years, my weekly bagel run has become far more meaningful than I ever would have expected. Touching on the pandemic, unemployment, and the recent military occupation of DC I explore how a simple food has become a symbol of normality, and gift of kindness, across a half decade of stress and sadness.

This is the story of that ring crew life.

We're wrapping up wrestling road trip week here on The Slice with a story from old school era Ring of Honor, courtesy of former wrestler and current owner and promoter of FIGHTT Pro Wrestling, ERNIE OSIRIS.

It's an overnight odyssey from Long Island, NY to Dayton, Ohio as Ernie, Rhett Titus, and Grizzly Redwood try their best to get the lighting truck to the show. It's a night filled with breakdowns, crash outs, and unlicensed drivers; from police to promoters, no one is making it easy on the ring crew. Can the boys make it to the building in time?

This is the story of how a little lumberjack almost became an American Gladiator

Today we welcome a former Professional Wrestler known for his time in Ring of Honor, Chikara, and more; current Pro Wrestling Referee; and the proprietor of Brutty Apparel: Grizzly Redwood!

Years ago, Grizz was serving on the Ring of Honor ring crew when he had the unexpected opportunity to try out for the American Gladiators reboot in the middle of an ROH loop. Hear how it went, what lengths Grizz was literally willing to go to get to the next round, and the athletic feat he accomplished he still brags about to this day.

All that, and a vociferous defense of Fanny Packs.

Let's switch gears to something a little more wholesome today, rounding out the week with a brand new pet adventure. Will she succeed in bringing her baby home?

Brittany Truske, the proprietor of Little Britt Pottery and my own personal lady love, makes her debut on the Slice to tell her story of every pet owner's nightmare - the day her dog disappeared. Is she bringing us a happy ending?
