PlayVS became the go-to option for high school esports quickly after being founded in 2018. PlayVS has partnerships with most major developers, is working with the National Federation of State High School Assosciations and has raised over $96M to date. There is a big discrepancy between the gaming industry and the esports industry. Gaming is simply much much larger, and esports true value is hard to pinpoint. In this episode we talk about the current size of gaming and why many industry experts don't trust, but have to use, Newzoo.

To read more about what I talked about in this episode, read Cecilia D'Anastasio's article in Kotaku and my article for Esports Insider where I talked with esports organization CEO's about the issues with making money.

Robert Morris Universities' esports program has a mixed history. They offered the first League of Legends scholarships which attracted players who would go on to play in the LCS, but at least one student had a tough experience with the program. Now they are being incorporated into Roosevelt University, at the very least helping distinguish RMU Chicago (who we cover here) from the unaffiliated Robert Morris University outside of Pittsburgh. BTW, that school is now offering esports scholarships too.
