Conference realignment doesn't seem like it is going to stop, and the Big Ten wants to use the opportunity presented to expand its dominance on the sport of College Football and the Media Markets involved. According to a report by College Football insider Matt Hayes, the Big Ten is interested in adding Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and California to the conference. I think Utah could potentially be a solid addition as well, along with some ACC schools that fit in with the rigid academic requirements. Washington did cancel their game with Ohio State in 2024, which could be a sign that there are talks between the two players. Speaking of Ohio State, the Buckeyes will most likely have the toughest draw of the new Big Ten scheduling system that will start in 2024. Michigan, UCLA, and USC are also projected to have tough schedules. Ohio State, for context, is projected to face Michigan, Penn State, and USC every year!

My Preseason Top 25 used 247Sports' Team Talent Composite and Recruiting Database, ESPN's Football Power Index and Efficiency Metrics, and my own Potential Power Index (Coming Soon) to bring a high-quality and hopefully accurate preseason Top 25. Though accurate preseason Top 25's are an unattainable hope with rare exceptions, I want to be that exception. I think this 2023 season will be full of chaos just like 2021 and 2022, yet will have a similar field of Elite units like in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 when Alabama and Clemson could not leave the playoff. I think Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio State will be a part of that almost repetitive Elite category. Washington, Penn State, Alabama, Utah, Florida State, LSU, USC, Clemson, Oregon, Texas, and potentially others could very well be contenders for the College Football Playoff as well. Nebraska's roster is already filled with talent, and I believe Matt Rhule and his staff can do great things at Nebraska in year one. More importantly, I think Nebraska will finish 2023 with a winning record of some kind (I believe 7-6/8-5/9-4 are the best possibilities, followed by 6-7 or outright winning the Big Ten West). The Huskers earned a Top 25 recruiting class in the 2023 cycle and have 11 new transfer portal players joining the program. However, if Rhule and company are able to land No.1 overall 2024 recruit Dylan Raiola, the talent level at Nebraska will soar. Not only that, but many 4-star and 5-star recruits will be captured by the Nebraska program if the Huskers are able to pull off a Raiola commitment. The 5-star Quarterback has thrown for 5,776 Yards and 54 Touchdowns in the past 2 seasons.

Jim Harbaugh has had the best run of his Michigan career so far, and I think it will only get better in 2023. Going 10-3 2 years in a row to eventually beating Ohio State and winning the Big Ten 2 years in a row is quite a turnaround (one that was unexpected). The Wolverines rank No.5 in returning production according to Bill Connelly, and the bulk of that production comes on offense with the return of Quarterback JJ McCarthy, Runningbacks Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, Offensive Guards Zak Zinter and Trevor Keegan, and Wide Receivers Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson. Michigan is No.4 in offensive returning production and No.16 on the defensive side of the ball. Michigan Football has a pair of demons at Linebacker in Ernest Hausmann and Junior Colson and they have a loaded secondary as well. I believe this team will win the College Football Playoff in 2023.

Michigan State hosts some of the toughest teams in the country this coming season, their arch-rival Michigan being just one example. Washington and Penn State come to town outside of Michigan, and Mel Tucker has to make road trips to Iowa, Minnesota, and Ohio State. The Spartans' 2023 College Football schedule will probably be the toughest in the country. I think Michigan, Ohio State, and Washington will all make the College Football Playoff and Penn State a contender. Michigan State is No.45 in returning production, most notably 11th on the offensive side of the ball, but they are not without their question marks. That, combined with a tough schedule, will make Mel Tucker's squad one of the most fascinating stories to watch.

The Buckeyes will be one of the best teams in the nation, and they have an underrated 2023 schedule ahead of them. With road games at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Michigan, and a tough home matchup with Penn State, some believe Ohio State could have its worst regular season record since 2011. I think those claims are foolish and the evidence for them is lacking. Ryan Day is a head coach who wins nearly 90% of his games and he returns a roster that is Top 3 in player talent. Also, he has an elite staff and there are several starters from last year who will once again be active on the field this year. This team is in great, strong hands and they will handle most if not all of their 2023 matchups.

The media baited the College Football world into believing that the Longhorns had returned to an elite level entering the 2022 season. Texas went 8-5 this past season and, despite having several close losses and a few impressive wins, was not even close to an elite football production. While I still think Steve Sarkisian is far from winning the College Football Playoff, I do think his 2023 squad has more than a shot to win a Big 12 Championship. With all starting Wide Receivers and Offensive Linemen returning, along with Tight End Ja'Tavion Sanders and Quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns look to be set on offense. Texas is No.3 in returning offensive production, and they are No.19 on defense in that same category. I think Texas Football is on the right track and they will improve this coming year (whether they win 9/10 games or win the Big 12 Championship has yet to be seen).

Georgia Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken has been hired by the Baltimore Ravens for the same role. Monken led Georgia to 2 National Championships and 2 Top 10 scoring offenses in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The Bulldogs had a combined 29-1 record during this stretch and 1 SEC Championship as well. The departure of Monken will be a bigger loss than advertised, as he is one of the nation's best minds at both the collegiate and professional levels of football. While his replacement, Mike Bobo, has had a great history with Quarterbacks and in my opinion is a good Offensive Coordinator, he will be a step down from Monken. Georgia's offense won't be a completely different unit, but the job of every other College Football Playoff-contending team's Defensive Coordinator just got easier.

4-year starter Sean Clifford is off to his post-collegiate career after finishing his 6th year at Penn State. With every other position on offense returning multiple starters and/or depth players, the Nittany Lions' most significant question mark is at Quarterback. That is where 6'5", 242 lb Sophomore Drew Allar comes onto the stage. Allar played in 10 of Penn State's 13 games last year and threw for 344 Yds and 4 TDs. A QB with dual-threat capabilities, he also had 1 rushing TD. I think that Allar will be a good QB this coming season, not an elite or outstanding QB, but good enough to make great plays and to spur the offense rather than hold it back. With an OL that returns 4 starters and a powerful run game, Drew Allar should be able to comfortably learn without having to carry James Franklin on his back.

The Big Game. The Super Bowl. Every year millions of Americans watch the biggest sports game of the year.
