Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State are the teams to talk about in the Big Ten East. Maryland is a program that is often not even regarded as a part of the Big Ten, let alone discussed. Today, that changes on this channel. I don't know whether or not Maryland will take the next step to become a Big Ten contender, but TCU in 2022 and Minnesota in 2019 are great examples of teams with little talent that have achieved a high level of success. With a great QB/RB  duo in Taulia Tagovailoa and Roman Hemby, I think the Terps have a chance to shock the world in 2022.

The Wolverines achieved 13 wins in a season for the first time in program history. After going 13-1 and losing to TCU in the Fiesta Bowl, the Wolverines are getting to work on winter workouts to prepare for spring and summer practice. Michigan ranks No.3 amongst all Power 5 programs in returning production (they rank No.5 including Group of 5 schools) and return nearly all of their starting skill position players. Incoming transfers and Michigan have bolstered the TE, OL, DL, and LB rooms and also return most of its 2022 staff. With staff and roster continuity, speed and toughness in the players, and young minds in the staff, I believe Michigan is poised to win the National Championship this year.

The average fan may think that the Buckeyes are on their way out of the College Football elite club, and who knows, maybe there is some truth to that. After all, the games will play themselves and determine the losers and winners, and 2023 has not played itself out yet. However, Ohio State is Top 50 in returning production according to Bill Connely, and they have a Top 3 roster when it comes to star talent. Combine these statistics with Brian Hartline returning all 3 of his starting WRs, TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams returning, and Ryan Day's reputation at developing QBs, and this Ohio State offense should reload. The interior run game will vastly improve as both starting Guards return, assuming Henderson and Williams stay healthy. Ohio State's offense is built for success, and their defense will climb new mountains in 2023 with Jim Knowles bringing back his entire staff and 7 starters.

It is time to talk about Nebraska Football. The Huskers went 4-8 in 2022 after I predicted them to go 10-2, foolishly. Though I expect Nebraska to finally rebound from their lack of success in the Mike Riley and Scott Frost era, this bounce back will really take some time. The journey to figuring out what Nebraska Football's identity will be under Rhule starts with a Thursday road game against the Minnesota Golder Gophers, and it doesn't get easier. With games against likely Top 25 opponents in Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin, along with other road games at Colorado, Illinois, and Michigan State, the Huskers will have to be mentally tough in order to not crack under pressure.

Here are my 2023 College Football Playoff Predictions! I am so excited to share my thoughts, analysis, and opinion with you. I think that Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, and Washington will be College Football's 4 representatives in the CFP this coming season. Michigan, Ohio State, and Georgia all have elite talent on offense and defense and a proven coaching staff, while Washington represents a team that I think will step into that role this season, but still has a young coaching staff and an unproven defense. Penn State, Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, and Utah are teams who I think can fill one of these 4 spots and also win a semifinal game. This prediction is subject to change, especially as the transfer portal and practice reopen in the following weeks. Regardless, only the games can determine how correct my predictions are.

PJ Fleck has had tremendous success at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are coming off of back-to-back 9-win seasons that have included wins over rival Wisconsin and successful finishes in the Big Ten West division. However, with QB Tanner Morgan and RB Mohamed Ibrahim departing for a future in the NFL or life after football, the Gophers could see a regression in 2023. This is especially possible considering Minnesota's tough 2023 schedule and the departure of former OC Kirk Ciarrocca to Rutgers. But with most of the defense returning, along with a large share of receiver production, PJ Fleck could once again defy all the odds.

Nick Saban is searching for a new offensive coordinator to replace the outgoing Bill O'Brien, and Tommy Rees might be his replacement. Rees has commanded 3 Top 50 offenses at Notre Dame, 2 of which have appeared in the Top 30. 2 of his offenses have also averaged 6 yards per play. Every year he coached at Notre Dame he had three mid-tier QBs Ian Book, Jack Coan, and Tyler Buchner/Drew Pyne. With Alabama's talent, I imagine Rees would have much more freedom to be creative and also produce much better numbers. On the other side, I believe Jeremy Pruitt or Todd Grantham will be Alabama's new defensive coordinator.

Davison Igbinosun has chosen Ohio State over Tennessee, Michigan, and UCLA. The former Ole Miss Freshmen CB started in 10 games last season and recorded 36 Tckls and 5 PD. The honorable-mention freshmen All-American joins former S Ja'Had Carter in transferring to Ohio State, where they will help a unit that struggled mightily in 2022. I think the Buckeye secondary is bound to improve in 2023. Given that Jim Knowles will be in his 2nd season as Ohio State's DC and the amount of experience and talent now at secondary, it would be very surprising to see a lack of improvement or regression in the DB room.

Iowa and North Carolina were the two most toxic, intriguing, confusing, and insufferable programs to watch in the 2022 College Football season. Today, I want to talk about the Big Ten's No.1 defense and No.16 offense (Their offense will be worse than USC and UCLA) and how I view their program, and a sneak peek of what I think they will be in 2023. With several portal additions on offense, notably QB Cade McNamara, TE Erick All, and OT Daijon Parker, the Hawkeyes certainly have the potential to improve on offense regardless of Brian Ferentz. The defense and special teams will certainly remain elite as those are the identity of any Kirk Ferentz-coached team.

From media darlings to media underlings, Mel Tucker and his Spartans are now under the radar heading into the 2023 season. Tucker is still young in his head coaching career and he will only be at Michigan State for his 4th season when fall comes around. With a Top 25 overall recruiting class, several veteran players returning, and staff continuity (whether for good or bad), I think the Spartans have a chance to shock the College Football world once more. Entering the 2023 season, Michigan State is a middle-of-the-road to above-average Power 5 program that is trending in the right direction.
