As a student of the University of Michigan, I cannot wait for my Wolverines to take the field against Colorado State this Saturday. To no one's surprise, Michigan is a massive favorite against the Colorado State Rams (30.5-point favorites to be exact) and the Wolverines should blow the rams off the field. The interesting part about this game will not be the matchup between the two teams, but the storyline of Michigan's QB battle. Cade McNamara will be starting this game, and JJ McCarthy will be starting in the following game against Hawaii. I expect that both will get repetitions in both games. Michigan will play a run-heavy game here, with some added trickeration and experimentation. Jim Harbaugh and his staff open up with an easy non-conference schedule that is basically three given wins, so expect the staff to rotate players and toy with new schemes and plays.

I was wrong. Scott Frost has done it again, in typical Scott Frost fashion. The Huskers led by 11 points twice and blew both leads. Big Red had a strong passing attack led by QB Casey Thompson, who went 25/42 and had 355 Passing Yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs. WRs Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda, Trey Palmer, Marcus Washington, and Alante Brown all played well, along with starting TE Travis Vokolek, Garcia-Castaneda finished with 4 Receptions for 120 Yards and 1 TD. Vokolek finished with 5 Receptions for 63 Yards. The offense wasn't the problem, nor were the special teams (minus the onside kick that was called by Frost). Rather, the defense, with poor coverage, pressure, and tackling, was what did the Huskers anything but a favor. Northwestern, however, played much better than expected and executed a great game plan on defense and especially offense. The Wildcat defense forced 3 Turnovers and had 2 Sacks and 3 TFLs. QB Ryan Hilinksi (on offense) went 27/38 and had 314 Passing Yards and 2 TDs. RBs Evan Hull and Cam Porter speared Nebraska on the ground, rushing for 214 Yards and 2 TDs, chewing clock and breaking the blackshirts. Northwestern moves on to play Duke in 2 weeks, while Nebraska returns home with a bundle of frustration and questions.

There are only 8 more days until Ohio State Football takes the field in Columbus to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This game has high stakes (even though it is early) as both are ranked in the Top 5 of the polls. Ohio State is currently favored by -15.5 points and is given more than an 80% chance to win according to ESPN's FPI. It is safe to say Notre Dame is a heavy underdog, but that does not mean they cannot win. Notre Dame is vital in the trenches, and last year Ohio State suffered two losses against teams with similar talent on the offensive and defensive lines in Oregon and Michigan. While Notre Dame doesn't have the same talent at RB and DL as those two, they will still serve as a good early test for the Ohio State defense and the Buckeye offensive line. Not only will Ryan Day be called into question if Notre Dame goes into Columbus and wins, but Marcus Freeman would establish himself as a rising HC. If the Buckeyes win, many questions surrounding the team will be answered in a positive manner, while Notre Dame would start off the year with their playoff hopes already in jeopardy.

Nebraska vs Northwestern kicks off in just 4 days! The game will be televised on FOX at 12:30 PM ET in Dublin Ireland. Nebraska beat Northwestern last year by a score of 56-7, so you best believe Pat Fitzgerald and the Wildcats will want revenge. The Cornhuskers are heavily favored heading into this matchup (-13), but only the game itself will determine who wins in Ireland. Nebraska's roster and coaching staff are superior to Northwestern's. With QB Casey Thompson, RB Anthony Grant, WRs Trey Palmer and Omar Manning, TE Travis Vokolek, and an OL that looks ripe for improvement, there is a lot to like about this Nebraska offense. Wildcat HC Pat Fitzgerald may have other plans, however.

Mel Tucker said his team wouldn't flinch, and they didn't all last year. The Spartans were picked to finish 7th in the East, finished 11-2, 3rd in the East, and won the Peach Bowl. RB Kenneth Walker, WR Jalen Nailor, and DEs Jacub Panasuik and Drew Beesley depart, but the majority of last year's production returns this season. QB Payton Thorne, WR Jayden Reed, and the Spartan Front Seven should be the story of this year's team. The DT room with Jacob Slade and Simeon Barrow should be as good as any unit at stopping the run. That, plus an LB room that is among the deepest in the Big Ten, should help the Spartan defense effectively shut down opponents' run games. The OL and DB rooms are where all this year's questions lay, if just one of these units is good or average, the Spartans could be due for another great run. I believe the Spartans will be a Top 25 team, achieve an 8-4 record, and finish T-3rd in the Big Ten East.

The 2022 preseason edition of the Coaches Poll was released this past Wednesday. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and even TEXAS all had first-place votes. The AP Poll releases tomorrow, and one voter, Brett McMurphy, decided to release his ballot a few days early. McMurphy's ballot comes with surprises and some sneaky good picks. He places Air Force and Nebraska inside his Top 25, but places Miami at #4 and excludes Michigan State from his Top 25 (just to give some examples of placements I agree and disagree with). Fortunately for us all, the preseason polls determine absolutely nothing and are primarily opinion based. Just look at the chaos that 2021 provided, a lot of the teams ranked in the 2021 preseason finished unranked at the end of the season.

Ohio State went 11-2 last year with a Rose Bowl victory. Most Big Ten teams would view that as a successful season, but not Ohio State. The Buckeyes expect to win the Big Ten every season, and last year they didn't win the conference for the first time since 2016. Today we will be discussing the possible outcomes for the Buckeyes this season. Ohio State returns a three-headed monster on offense in QB CJ Stroud, RB TreVeyon Henderson, and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba. There is an argument for each of those players to be listed as No.1 in their respective position. Combine that with several staff upgrades on defense, and the Buckeyes have what it takes to being home a national title. I have Ohio State as my No.1 team entering 2022, and I 100% believe this Buckeye squad will win it all with a 15-0 record.

Scott Frost is 15-29 in his time at Nebraska so far. There has been so much potential in every one of the teams he has coached, but none of those teams were able to finish when it mattered most. This year, I think it will be different. I think Nebraska will not only learn to finish close games, but they will thrive with their schedule and win the Big Ten West. I think QB Casey Thompson will contend for getting his name on an All-Big Ten team and that Garrett Nelson and Ochaun Mathis have the potential to make the best pass rush duo Nebraska has seen in the past decade. However, I think it is good to talk about the possible outcomes for the Huskers this season. Scott Frost and company have a wide range of outcomes, as the team has a high upside but also an intense floor (as seen in the Scott Frost era). I believe the Huskers will have a successful season, going 10-2, and winning the Big Ten West.

There are ONLY 21 days left until College Football begins. I am excited to watch Week 0 and cover the Nebraska vs Northwestern game (and more) with you all. With that being said, it is still 28 more days until Michigan Football starts up. The Wolverines won the Big Ten for the first time since 2004 and beat Ohio State for the first time since 2011. With plenty of the 2021 team departing to the NFL (RB Hassan Haskins, DE Aidan Hutchinson, DE David Ojabo, and S Daxton Hill), Michigan has a lot of holes to fill on defense and questions to answer on offense. The question with the most amount of talking points is the QB battle. Despite leading Michigan to a 12-2 record last year, Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy will be competing for the starting QB spot. I don't think there is a wrong answer for Jim Harbaugh and company here. Both McNamara and McCarthy have talent and both of their strengths outweigh their weaknesses. The more important question lies in how Michigan's offense will evolve to compensate for the departing talent on defense.
