Who is the best team of the 21st century? Yes, the 21st century isn't even close to being over, but there have been several elite teams that have been fielded during this century. 2001 Miami, 2019 LSU, and 2020 Alabama are not only elite teams of this century, but they are elite teams when they are played over the history of college football. I wanted to talk about those three today and leave it up to you to decide which of these three is the best team of the 21st century. All of these teams had an abundance of NFL talent and great QB and WR play.

Minnesota finished off 2021 with a 9-4 record after going 3-4 in 2020. While the offense performed at a poor level and the team was handed several injuries, Minnesota continued to fight and compete. Even with a home loss to 4-8 Bowling Green, PJ Fleck and his Gophers continued to row the boat. Despite returning plenty of production from 2021 (80% of their 2021 offensive production) and upgrading their offensive coordinator position, Minnesota is not being given much attention. PJ Fleck has an opportunity to win big and improve on offense in 2022, as he brings back QB Tanner Morgan, RBs Mohamed Ibrahim and Trey Potts, and C John Michael-Schmitz. Knowing the coach that PJ Fleck is, I can only imagine how good this team can be in 2022. Fleck is 23-10 in his last three seasons (including a weird 2020 season) and is 3-5 against ranked opponents in that time frame. With inferior talent and resources compared to many Big Ten schools, the job he has done at Minnesota is impressive.

Nebraska's offense was anything but consistent in the 2021 season. While there was improvement at many positions, Nebraska's OL regressed, and that combined with poor play calling left the offense being more of a liability than a scoring machine. With Adrian Martinez transferring out, and starters Cam Jurgens, Austin Allen, and Samori Toure off to the NFL, there are a lot of new faces on the Nebraska offense. However, Nebraska's 2022 offense should be vastly superior to the 2021 unit. WIth Mark Whipple, Mickey Joseph, Donovan Raiola, and Bryan Applewhite coming in as new coaches, development should no longer be a concern. Each of these assistant coaches is proven to be superior to the ones they replaced. Combine that with a lot of raw talent and incoming impact transfers, and Nebraska could have one of the Big Ten's best offenses in 2022.
