If the foundation isn't right, the building will never be right. Often what is underneath is more important than what can be seen on top. When it comes to godliness, the most important thing is that it is based upon the right thing. Peter indicates that God's revealed Word is the basis of our pursuit of godliness. Today's sermon- The Foundation of Godliness. -2 Peter 1-12-21-.

You have to feel a little sorry for him. Pilate's personal ambition was to be a ruler within the Roman empire. He was appointed to rule over a small portion of that empire, an area in Judea that included Jerusalem. It was not the most prestigious post and it was fraught with difficulties-namely, keeping the Jews happy. In the middle of this, Pilate is thrust face-to-face with Jesus Christ. He is given the task of deciding what to do with Jesus. Tonight's sermon- Pilate's Choice. -Luke 23-1-24.-

Most people outside of Christianity do not make it a goal to be godly. In fact, most would consider such a goal to be foolishness. What value is there, they think, to pursue a God that may or may not even exist- Peter explains in his epistle that there are very important reasons to pursue godliness. The internal cause of the rejection of the gospel

According to the Gospel writers, the trial of Jesus was done in six phases. Jesus stood before His Jewish accusers three times and before the Roman authorities three times. Luke does not make these distinctions in his story of Jesus' arrest and trial. He briefly mentions the beginning of the first Jewish trial and then the final verdict the following morning. The story shows Jesus courageously engaging the blasphemous leaders with the truth.

If you received a message that your bank account had been cleaned out, emptied by a thief posing to be you, how would you react- Would you call the bank- Or call the police- Would you do nothing- Almost all of us would probably do something about that. Have you ever thought about the daily problem of sin- Like a thief who steals your money, sin robs you of joy of God's blessings, of your testimony. So, how do you react- Our study of Luke will focus on Peter's reaction to his denial of Jesus.

There is a sense of finality to the cross. On the cross, Jesus died. His death was the propitiation of God's wrath against our sin. Literally, Jesus died in our place. The sermon today focuses on the words of Jesus on the cross when He declared victory over Satan and sin. Today's sermon- I Win. -John 19-30-
