This Sunday, we return to the “armor of God” and Ephesians 6. We have reached the end of the section and Paul’s addition of prayer to the panoply of God. While prayer is presented differently from the other parts of our spiritual kit, it is nevertheless very much related to our armor, completing the discourse with an emphasis on prayer in our conflict with spiritual forces.

The exposition of the armor of God continues this Sunday. We will look at Ephesians 6:17b and “The Sword of the Spirit.” The study of the theme of the Messiah’s sword in the Old Testament and then is used in the New Testament is both fascinating and instructive. We see that the great “weapon” of the Christ to come is not a great army, nor sophisticated technology of armaments, but the inspired Word. Let us take up this same sword, brothers, and wield it against our foes.

This week, Pastor's sermon in Ephesians considers the 5th piece of armor we are to wear, namely, “The Helmet of Salvation.” God wants our heads to be directed to our hope in the risen Christ and assurance we have of our salvation. This “helmet” is not only crucial to our spiritual combat, it is essential for us believers to wear this helmet of salvation for us to celebrate rightly the Christmas season.
