    Did you know...

    • In the latest national study, only 38% of the respondents reported to NOT having anxiety. (That means 62% do!)
    • Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older
    • Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.
    • People with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders.
    • Anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events.

How do stress and anxiety differ from each other?

What are the main different types of anxiety?

    What does anxiety feel like?

Are there other causes of anxiety?

  • Helping Your Teen Develop a Healthy Body Image, Avoid Body Shaming, and Strengthen Their Self-Worth

The digital scale read 201 pounds. I stared at it in disbelief. Although I had 2 young kids and an amazing husband, I couldn't imagine being worthy of anything if my weight was 201 pounds.

I knew that ending my life that day would serve my husband, my two kids, my family members, and my friends the best. I would help them avoid the shame that they would feel having me around. My husband could marry someone new - someone who was worthy of their love and could be the parent they needed.

I was sitting in a plasma donation center at that time. All my past suicide ideation thoughts came together. I knew what needed to be done and I could take care of it as soon as I got home and my husband left for work.

That was back in 1998. But that wasn't the first time I associated shame and worthlessness with a number on a scale. My first diet was when I was in 5th grade. I dieted on and off for the next several decades of my life. If I weighed more than I should, I had less worth, value, and love. If I weighed less than I should, then I was more worthy, more loveable, and had more value.

Does any of this sound familiar to you? Have you struggled with the same issues of body shaming and worthlessness? Do you struggle knowing how to help your kids develop a healthy relationship with food when you don't know what that even looks like?

If you said yes to any of the above statements, the time for you to get help is RIGHT NOW. I have successfully worked in the weight loss industry with 100's of people over the past 15 years. This is an emotional issue that you need help and guidance to work through. This is especially essential if you have kids.

I will guarantee you that if you don't love yourself right now, the way you are and not the way you hope to be or wish you were or used to be, your kids will grow up feeling the same way about themselves. Their environment is made even more toxic because of the thousands of images they scroll through every day. Perfectionism is something they feel is a reasonable expectation of themselves now.

When my teenage daughter developed an eating disorder, I didn't know where to turn. Now, I am equipped to help other parents so you won't feel like you have to navigate this journey on your own.

Book a free, no pressure, no obligation, discovery call today with me. I have limited spots open each week, but I want to hear your story and help you find the help that you or your teen needs!

  • Help! Am I Failing as a Parent?

I am pretty sure I’ve messed up my kids. I’ve made a ton of mistakes. When I was blessed with a 7th child, I was sure there must have been some terrible mixup. What was God thinking to send another kid to my imperfect and messy family?

I was sure that if I could just get my kids on a church service mission, married in the temple, have kids themselves, and then forge through their trials with faith and gratitude, I could count myself a good parent.

I considered the “milestones” that I had learned about growing up as indicators that I had done my job well. I longed for confirmation from God and others that I was okay. I wanted to be sure that I had been a good parent. Since I was so insecure about my parenting skills, I looked for affirmations from the outside.

But what I’ve learned is that the choices my kids make have nothing to do with how well I parented them. No matter what they do, how they use their agency, paths they follow, choices they make, I am still a good parent.

Just like the 5 powerful words, we say to our kids from episode 3, we are judged on the process, not the end result.

My belief is that when all is said and done if we can love our children through all their life choices and decisions, we are successful.

The key is to learn to love your kids no matter what. That may be one of the hardest things you face.

I am here for you if you need some encouragement. The time to clean up your parenting style so you don’t have regrets is now.

  • You Are Enough: The Parable of the $100 Bill

One of my most popular speaking topics has to do with the parable of the $100 bill.

I like taking out a crisp, new-looking, $100 bill. It’s the bill that I looked at and envied the most when I was young.

If I were to offer to give this $100 bill to someone, most would surely take it. What could you buy with $100 nowadays? A video game, groceries, gas in your car, a new outfit, or a pair of shoes.

This is a beautiful bill and it has worth and value.

This is how each of us is born. We each come to earth with value. We are crisp and clean.

But what happens when our $100 bill starts to get a little worn, tattered, wrinkled, maybe even a bit torn?

Do you ever think that your once beautiful $100 bill is starting to look less than perfect, less than desirable? You may even compare that $100 bill to others $100 bill. You may see the ways others' lives look so much better than yours.

If you were to take that $100 bill to the store to buy something, would the cashier look at the bill and decide it wasn't worth taking? Would she turn you away because your $100 bill doesn't look as good as someone else's?

Let's see what parallels we can draw between this $100 bill and our value and worth. This podcast will be well worth your time listening to.

Please subscribe and share with others who may need to remember their value and worth.

If you would like me to come to speak at your next event on this topic or others, please send me an email at [email protected] to talk about options.

Between the physical and mental health challenges of our time, almost all of us have times that feel very heavy.

This is especially true for moms. When a mom is unwell it is especially difficult for everyone.

I have experienced seasons of very heavy mental and physical challenges while being a mom. In this podcast episode, I share with you my experiences with severe Post-Partum Depression after my 3rd kid, and my physical challenge of having both my knees replaced in my early 40's.

  • Effective Discipline That Sticks

With 7 kids, 14 years apart, you can imagine what my house was like a few years ago. I had teenager tantrums and toddler tantrums simultaneously in the same place at the same time. My youngest kids were being taken to all the older kid’s activities, which was really stressful. I spent hours in the car with my kids at arm's length from each other. Even when we got our 15-passenger van, there were still many many times that the kids were WAY TOO CLOSE to each other. It drove us nuts.

Chaos felt like it was the norm on many days. I lost my temper easily and felt like I needed to yell to be heard. I was constantly being driven to sort out all kinds of issues and problems.

I described to my own coach what home was like. I felt like I was living in everyone else’s hurricanes, being blown this way and that.

She asked what it would be like to be in the center or eye of the hurricane.

That imagery struck me. What would it be like to be in the center of the chaos, yet remain calm? I could see the swirling chaos and problems surrounding me. I could just reach out and pluck one out at a time, here and there, carefully deciding which ones were the highest priorities. The rest I could allow to swirl.

I imagined the eye of the hurricane as a place that was calm. I could make rational decisions and choices. I could carefully select which problems were the most important to address and the best ways to take care of them.

I also knew I couldn’t keep living in this chaos. I knew something had to change. My life wasn’t working for me, and I wasn’t the mom I had hoped to be. I was miserable, depressed, and anxious. My body was beginning to be ridden with all types of health problems. I had to make a change.

I learned 9 important steps to managing my household and the problems inside it while keeping my sanity. I discovered that I was the key in how well the discipline in my home worked. Even though I now have a home twice as big with less than half the bodies in it, consequences are still part of my role as a parent. And now have 26 years of learning and practice when it comes to setting consequences that work.

  • Creating a Healthier Partnership and Happier Marriage: Interview with Sharon Constanzo

We may feel like our relationship with our spouse doesn't affect our kids, but I can assure you it does.

It isn't uncommon for me to work with a teen ridden with anxiety who either saw, heard, or felt the conflict between their parents. Some newly married couples never saw their parents argue. They didn't learn those important conversation and negotiation skills that must happen in our adult lives. How you interact with your spouse absolutely has a lifelong effect on your kids, either good or bad.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't ever disagree or argue. But do it in a constructive way, modeling healthy and respectful communication and how to resolve important issues.

In this episode, my good friend and relationship expert, Sharon Constanzo gives us some tips and ideas of how we can create a healthier environment at home.

"With so many couples feeling distant, unheard, unappreciated, and overburdened, Sharon offers hope for improving your relationship and getting on the same page in your most important decisions.

Sharon is known for her practical and drama-free approach to the common conflicts and challenges that most couples face. She shares her wisdom and insights on the Keep Talking Revolution Podcast and offers group courses and private relationship coaching."

  • The 5 Words Your Kids Need to Hear

Welcome to this week's version of Come Home to Peace. In this episode, I share with you 5 powerful words you can use to express to your teen the joy you get from watching them develop their talents and try new things.

These words not only made a huge difference in the way I interacted with my teens but also the way I felt about watching them push themselves in their activities.

I share a story of a struggling teen who came to me for advice because she felt like her parent's love for her was directly related to how well she played her sports. She wanted to stop playing these sports she had grown to hate, but she didn't know if she could risk losing her parents' love for her.

You may think that you aren't this type of parent, but you may be unintentionally sending your kids the wrong message. Use these 5 words to strengthen their trust in you and your love for them.
