As the Nelson’s get tucked in for the night, a drip keeps Harriet awake. The dozing Ozzie is awakened to go do something about it. After a growing argument over who should get up to turn it off, Harriet resorts to luring Ozzie into her trap of getting him out of bed, and fixing the dripping bathroom sink.

You know how these things go. Returning to the comfort of bed, the faucet begins dripping anew. Good thing Ozzie has his own way of eliminating a little drip. His trickle of water may mean silence, but I feel more costly penalties to pay. How about a flooded bedroom by morning? Though not mentioned, there would also be a huge water bill, water damage, and some of the comic scenes wouldn’t play out so well, without doors that allowed humans to open, while retaining water behind them.

At the breakfast table, the aftermath of the flood of water is talked about. Has it affected their maid, Gloria in any way? Dreams of mountaintop streams, and cozy dating are told. Ozzie insists on fixing the leak himself. Uh-Oh. This can’t go well either. Getting to work, assisted by his son, David, Ozzie’s beginner’s luck goes south on him, and a real plumber is called.

The King Sisters sing, Gotta Be This or That.

Ozzie hires a plumber to come over, then learns the plumber is a woman, setting up awkward role reversal moments. The gruff, but inept plumber’s assistant, and the girls swapping hair and style tips, once Harriet discovers the lady professional in the house.

Showing her skills, the lady plumber doesn’t mess around. But will it really take a full sink replacement, and reconversion to fix the drip? Time will tell when the Nelson’s trey to get some sleep tonight.

Audio resolution is a little low, as if recorded by placing a microphone next to a speaker. But for that, its really pretty good.

The morning in the Anderson home is about as average as it can get. Breakfast is on the table, the kids aren’t quite dressed, or ready for the day, and a lost roller skate is found the hard way by dad. What’s Cathy’s desperate need for a couple dollars at school? Bud has to ask dad for support in his picnic, but it’s all about to pale in comparison to what the perky Betty is about to drop on dear old dad.

In her sweet, and strange tones, very different from her usual drama queen self, Betty explains that she is going to be married. Which of her boyfriends of the week is this one? The young couple have thought it through, no need for a motherly conference by mom, they’ve decided to wait before the wedding… it won’t be until this Saturday. Why when dad was courting mom… wait… how old were they when they tied the knot? This may not be a good argument… kids Betty’s age were much older back then.

Time to invite the boy’s parents over to discuss the situation, Jim’s old pal Hector and his wife. First, Bud and Cathy are shuttled off to the movies to get them out of the way. Will an open discussion on adult responsibilities be a wake up call to the teens, who rely on allowances, and life in mama’s care for daily support? How long will it take the kids to become financially independent? They’re at least smart enough to realize it’s going to be a few years, but when Billy’s mom is relieved they won’t be making the same mistake as she did, a whole new can of worms is opened.

With the misunderstanding of what to do about evicting grandpap, and the way Lum wants to save the day with the old Dillard place, we find Lum reviewing the matter with Phinus. Abner’s old poppa seems to understand what Lum intends, but will either be able to talk sense to the hotheaded Abner?

Leaving the prisoners in the jail to their own devices, constable Abner is joined by grandpap, as they return to the store to set up the rope that will divide the store, and begin their inventory.

Try as they might, neither Lum, or Phinus can manage to convince the stubborn Abner and grandpap to see it their way. They’re like trying to argue with a stump on fire. A checker game is interrupted when Cedric enters to buy a new pair of shoes. The trash talking between the raff-riff, and varmints turns to heated sales pitches.

While Lum conducts business, Abner tries to disparage the quality of shoes, or whether they’re actually needed. Until he notices the left shoe is on his side of the store.

Now the sales pitch changes to a bidding war, with Cedric caught in the middle. With the OPA being the agency that kept prices under a ceiling to control inflation, the bidding goes spiraling down. But there’s another government agency that Abner seems to have forgotten about. How can Cedric make two purchases of shoes, with only one ration coupon?

Billy Mills opens with, Do It Again.

Planning a trip, Fibber maps out a route, while Molly reviews her dress pattern. A phone call finds Molly getting the tragic news from Mirt the phone operator. The role reversal isn’t as good as when Fibber does it… he says. Needing help with the dress making, Fibber is called upon to model it for her to be sure how her work will look. Will he be able to swallow his pride, and become a cross dresser? Of course the neighbors begin stopping by. Right after Billy Mills plays a tune, as Harlowe does his hard sale for the sponsor.

Teeny pops in to ask Fibber to join her friends for a game. What does she do with the phonograph of one of Fibber’s shows? Finally giving in, Fibber dons the dress, but when the Old Timer visits, Fibber has to face the jokes and puns. Harlowe pops in to get a laugh over the sight of Fibber in drag, and spin the situation into a moment of soft selling.

Abigail Uppington arrives to get in her puns at Fibber’s expense. She offers her own style expertise, and Fibber is ready to toss in the dress for a trip to the manly environment of the pool hall. Finding himself locked out of the house is a good time for the Kingsmen to sing, Wheel in the Middle of the Air.

What’s Fibber to do when Gildersleeve pops over? Pretending to be a woman, Fibber leads Gildy on, but learns a few things that his friend really thinks about him. Will the great man take the mysterious woman on a date? How will Gildy react to being exposed to blackmail, when an old joke is reworked for a role reversal? A mistaken emergency finds a cab driver thinking Fibber is a pregnant bride, needing a ride to the delivery room.

Lum just can’t win in explaining toAbner about the plan to save granfpap’s farm. Meanwhile, down at the jailhouse grandpap pops in for a checker game, and to see why Abner just left his share in the store to be disposed of by that traitor, Lum. Besides, isn’t Abner pampering the prisoners?

The situation of why grandpap is being evicted, and the adjacent Dillard place is reviewed, as the two old gents talk. To test Lum’s integrity, grandpap phones in an order of something that’s only found on Abner’s side of the store. Should he spring for a few clothespins, or splurge, and get a whole pack? Will that snake in the weeds sell Abner’s things, and keep all the money?

As bad as the problem seems to be, is it enough to go out and arrest Lum? With the current condition of overcrowding in the jailhouse, there might not be enough lemonade and ginger snaps to go around as it is.

As requested from a twitter follower, I put together this feature of a little known radio show. Most of what I could find centers on the star of the show, Joan Gerber.

On radio, she was the voice of “The Story Lady,” in a 1968 series of two-minute shorts syndicated by Mel Blanc Superfun Productions.

Her career spanned all manner of voice acting, even making frequent stops on, Adventures in Odyssey

Joan Gerber was an American voice actress for a variety of cartoons, perhaps being best known as the voice of Mrs. Beeakly on DuckTales.

Gerber showed a faithfulness to Adventures in Odyssey from the very beginning and voiced many minor roles over the course of the program. These include Teresa Rossini (#6: “The Day After Christmas”), Audrey Nelson (#51 – #52: “Connie”), Mrs. Erskine (#300: “Preacher’s Kid”), Vivian Birch (#340 – #341: “Pokenberry Falls, R.F.D.”), and several others.

Interestingly, Gerber often acted in Barclay family episodes as an antagonist (or at least a challenger) to Donna, playing the roles of Grace (#32: “Family Vacation, Part 2”), Mary Hooper (#72: “An Encounter with Mrs. Hooper”), Mrs. Erskine (#300: “Preacher’s Kid”), etc.

Gerber died on August 22, 2011.

Pressure is still on to serve those eviction papers, but today we find Cedric visiting the Jot Em Down store. Abner tells how he’s dissolving himself from partnership in the store. It’s over the misunderstanding on how to save grandpap, by buying thee old Dillard place.

Cedric tells how he used to hunt squirrels out there. Even getting a few with rocks, if he didn’t have his squirrel gun. Abner is only in the store to gather his possessions, and insists on having Cedric get his old sleeve garter from the stovepipe, where it was used in an old repair.

When Lum enters, Abner refuses to talk to him. The interruptions mean he may not get his garter back, but will he get over his misunderstanding over Lum’s plan to help grandpap? Abner decides to get out, and focuses on his duties down at the jailhouse. Will the prisoners realize who’s the boss, when he orders them around in making Little Rock’s out of bit rocks? Do they even have rocks?

Taking a stroll to grandpap’s land, Lum tries to show Abner his idea on softening the blow of the eviction they have been forced to serve on their long time friend. For the sake of a mineral spring, a big time contractor seems to have swindled grandpap out of his homestead. Lum points out the creek that makes the boundary between grandpap, and the old Dillard place.

He continues to drop hints that the Dillard place has lain fallow for some years, and with a rested land, it’s actually in better shape to be more productive than grandpap’s tired out old farm. And it could be had for cheap. Just buy it for the taxes owed on it’s just a shame to let BJ Webster take control of the valuable mineral spring.

Abner agrees, to a point. The Dillard place is better, but how can grandpap afford to buy it? on top of that, he’ll still lose his valuable spring. When Lum tries to explain how the creek might just happen to change course, and maybe he and Abner could buy the place, conclusions are jumped to, and the stage is set for a host of future splits and disloyalties to come.

Now that Abner has been deputized in the absence of Henry Lunseford, he tries to find reasons to keep from serving those eviction papers on grandpap. Would it be better for Abner to do the official duty, or let the county marshal step in? With buck shot involved, Lum is going to have a hard time convincing Abner.

Is there any legal loopholes to get out of being deputy? Maybe not, but Lum finds information on property boundaries. Abner is too busy fretting over being deputy, he nearly misses Lum’s point about how an accident might change the lay of the land, and where that creek sets the boundary on grandpap’s land.

When Cedric enters, the gents discuss the travesty of grandpap’s land being taken away. BJ Webster phones ing to add to the pressure, and Abner has to give him the report on why grandpap is still on his land. Thinking fast, he deputizes Cedric as a deputy to the deputy, and sends him on the way to handle things. Sort of….

On this lovely Spring day, the McGee’s greet passing friends, as Fibber shows off his new bargain. As they walk, an auction outside the wallpaper store catches Molly’s attention. Boomer acts as auctioneer to present the items for sale, milking bids from the unwilling Fibber. . Stuck with unwanted wallpaper, and a bill for the whopping sum of $36, Fibber grumbles as he carries his goods home. Teeny crosses his path to tell about being out of school. What vacation plans might she have?

Back home, the Old Timer pops in to tell it the way he hear’d it on bad jokes, and wallpaper. Fibber puts himself into action to do his own paper hanging. A phone call to Mirt the phone operator reveals her brother got pinched for robbing a train. Harlowe is back to soft sell the sponsor, spinning the topic at hand into the pitch.

Fibber insists on doing his own disastrous work to Molly’s dismay. Hanging precariously from the chandelier, Willian William, also known as Double Billed McGee boasts on his daredevil feats from his old vaudeville days. The Kingsmen sing, Say It .

Visitors keep coming, and Abigail Uppington gets in her wallpapering jokes. What kind of paper is her house done in, or does she even have any? She seems to have been another of Boomer’s auction victims. Gildersleeves stops in to help his pal, though he thinks he’s a hard man. The papering job continues, and the paste flies. How in the world will Fibber get out of this mess? Only in a way that could happen in radio.

Note: Crosstalk bleeds into the audio. This often happens when the recording from elsewhere on the tape is picked up where it has been looped around the reel. The magnetic storage of one part of the tape affects the other , especially when it has been stored that way for a long time. Also tapes stored too close to each other might imprint their magnetic signal on another.
