A salesman from a motion picture distributing company had come to call on Lum, and today he’s going to return. Abner has gone to Mena to learn to use the projector, so grandpap is on hand to talk with Lum, help with deliveries, and to try to get a good deal from the movie salesman. Grandpap already has two jobs, delivering telegrams for Dick Huddleston, and piano player for the theater. Will he be too busy to lend a hand?

How might grandpap help- Lum when the salesman comes to pitch his films? What dandy, colossal films will be available? The Vulture’s Revenge sounds promising. During the bargaining, the salesman spills the beans that there’s another, competing movie theater in town. The other fellow’s name isn’t known, but I’ll bet it’s run by Squire Skimp

Lum and grandpap try to figure out who could be in competition with the theater. A bidding war for the Vulture’s Revenge begins, will Lum still get a good price on that film? Will he ever learn that Squire is starting his own theater?

Grandpap and Cedric man the store, while Lum has taken down the screen door for the season. As the excited Abner leaves on the mail hack, Lizabeth phones to say he forgot his umbrella. In Lum’s words, “That’s the trouble with having a woman for a wife. They always gotta be worrying about something.”

A man enters, claiming to be an actor. Would he like Cedric’s autograph? What does the traveling man want? Is he selling something? Does he work with the carpenters?

When Lum discovers he’s in the picture business, he’s eager to talk shop with the stranger.

He has only the best of films that can be found. But what exactly is in his catalog? Nothing that’s playing in theaters today… or the hits of the past… what does he have then?

Audio quality is a bit murky, but OK. As Sade talks on the telephone, Vic enters to toss in a bit of his flowery silly talk and learn about the plans for another game of 500 with the Stembottoms. As silly as Vic can be when he’s in high spirits, Sade may be a little embarrassed, but she’d rather have him silly than brooding.

Vic and Sade begin discussing Vic’s flights into quixotic moods, and the needd to keep himself calm. Of course, Vic claims that he’s in control of his moods all the time, and never flies off the handle. His high spirits are due to taking a business trip with his boss, Mr Rubish. What’s the reason Vic was invited along?

In planning his trip to Chicago, Vic gets the motherly treatment from Sade. She goes over the packing list for his suitcase to remind him of the things he’s forgetting. Sade has to Ease off her packing supervision before Vic loses control of his mood, but if it were up to Vic he’d take only his brief case and not much more. Sade thinks of all the details of taking a change of clothes, pajamas, and more. A telephone call comes in that adds closure to the show, but it’s just a wrong number. Somebody lookig for a guy named Fats.

Abner is eager for his trip on Monday, and already starts packing his satchel. He’s acting like a frog sitting on a hot stove. Is he planning on a cold snap? Lizabeth has him packing for all manner of harsh weather. Should he take along a book? How about Gilbert the Boy Trapper?

The phone rings. It’s Lizabeth, reminding her man to take his heavy underwear. Now what did Abner do with them. He has all weekend to find them, but now it has him bothered. Is Abner losing his mind? Is he coming down with something?

Lum checks to see if his pal is running a fever. Abner begins to think he’s dying. Should Lum call Doc Miller? Squire enters with a pitch for housewives to save their tin cans for the war effort. Will Lum figure out what’s wrong with Abner? He just might, just as soon as he digs through the extra layers of heavy underwear.

Audio has an overbearing hum that makes it a little difficult to hear. Uncle Fletcher and Vic talk about the fancy box that Fletcher holds in his hands. What might it hold? Fletcher insists that Vic guess at it’s contents like a giddy schoolboy. Of course it’s a wedding present for Fletcher’s landlady, but what is there about it that makes it so spectacular for Fletcher?

Vic plays along with being toyed with, like a cat toys with a mouse. When Fletcher lifts the lid on the box, will Vic be as amazed as he is expected to be? He has a hard time dealing with the well thought out gift that Fletcher has put together. In fact, would anybody understand it?

Vic finally has to play the heavy and tell Fletcher the bad news about his gift. He does his best to let the eccentric Fletcher down easy.

Audio is a little weak, and has a low hum. Vic leaves to go back to work after lunch, but Sade has a list of things for him to do on an errand after work. She keeps Vic talking in hushed tones, since Mr Donahue is trying to sleep next door. Among the errands, Sade mentions a woman who called to remind Vic about Moonbeam chimes.

What are these Silver Moonbeam chimes? Is it something related to the lodge, or to the office? Either way, Sade slowly lures Vic into a trap. She is never keen on spending money on the lodge, and that Miss Pompom Cordoba at the office is a hotbed of jealousy just waiting to explode on poor old Vic.

That’s right Vic, keep on digging your hole deeper as Sade’s seeminly innocent questions draw you deeper into her net. The claws are out, and the words more sharp as Vic is once again put into his place by his wife. Poor Vic thrives on adoring, flirtatious compliments, and Sade never seems to do that for him. When will Sade ever learn to be flirtatious, and in doing so, keep Vic’s ego needs met athome? When will Vic ever learn that mention of those flirtatious secretaries at work never end well if he lets Sade lure him down the path of self incrimination? Some things are better left unsaid, accompanied by a fast change of subject.

Everything in regards to the movie theater is going well, except finding someone to run the projector. Cedric was supposed to, but he hasn’t quite mastered it yet. Chairs are still a problem, and the gents figure out how to transport them back and forth from the lodge.

Is Abner’s headaches due to needing new eyeglasses? Lum doesn’t think so, and Abner’s asthma is just because he lets them slide too far down his nose. All of Abner’s ailments are due too his overactive imagination, and speculating who his life will be like inside the theater.

Does that mean he ought to cancel his trip to Mena? How is Cedric coming along with the projector in the feed room? If it don’t work, should he pick it up and shake it, like you do with a clock that won’t run right? Lum makes an arrangement to have someone trained in the county seat by the theater manager, and Abner is that man.

Audio has a low rumble to it that overpowers the audio. Sade recounts to Vic about the number of her friends who owe her money, and their excuses they give her for not paying her back. There’s bills to pay to the brick mush man, the need to borrow a few cents for a postage stamp, or simply dropping a few coins on the floor and losing them as they roll away. But those are only a few of the littany of rejections Sade faces from her friends who owe her money.

There’s even a matter of winning a bet for a penny, but Sade isn’t able to collect on it. Vic has been paying close attention to the funds, and I think he may be tempted to calculate Sade’s untold riches, but knows better not to. Poor penny-pinching Sade, will she ever have any luck in collecting her debts?

The Beverly Hills Uplifters club is meeting, but is George up to putting a stop to the gossiping gals? The catty dames force George to head out to pick up some items to send to Gracie’s brother who is stationed in Iceland.

Jimmy Cash sings, White Christmas. Gracie stops the gossiping long enough to open the meeting by reding the minutes. Any new business? George is back and thinks discussion of war work would be better than the usual trivial topics. Gracie tries to tell Herman the duck the benefits of meat rationing in supporting the war effort. What about car pooling and sharing resources?

Paul Whiteman plays, and the Six Hits and a Miss sing, Manhattan Serenade. Gracie is pleased, proud, and praises George for his idea for the Uplifters. But will George need to make some sacrifices of his own for the war effort? The man crazy Tootsie has chased Bill Goodwin to the Burns home. Even the sponsor is offering something to customers in supporting the war.

Just how far will the pooling of resources go? Sharing medicine, the radio, and even in the bed room.

The cost of hiring granpap and his piano means all his relatives will get in free. Today Lum is smitten over the stranger in town. So much so, he gave her a free pass to the movies.

Abner is upset at a stranger being given a pass. Who else has one? Lum had promised no free passes for anybody. Abner lists all the folks who now have a pass, or have been promised passes. Lum figures the folks with passes will be good advertisement for the theater.

People will see the crowd, and want to get in line too. Or as Abner sees it, they’ll see the line, an just want to stay home. The topic of who makes a good man to be in charge of the theater comes up. Abner is sure of who Lum has in mind… or has Lum just pulled a fast one on Abner? A phone call from uncle Henry Lunsford may reveal a problem for Lum, and his free hand with the passes.
