Welcome to Issue #22 of the Comic Relief Podcast where this time we focus on the much debated Suicide Squad movie. We brought on our good friend, and special guest, Colleen Rodriguez to weigh in her thoughts and opinions. Oddly enough, it seems in so many regards, the three of us didn’t agree on a lot of aspects; where one or two of us might have liked something, the other didn’t; or where two of us thought the movie was okay, the other that it was pretty good (save for a few things). Despite frequently disagreeing with one another throughout the podcast, we managed to stay pretty civil (see folks, you can disagree and still be civil!)

Tawmis Logue & Maico Moreno sat down and watched X-Men: Apocalypse, and sit down to share their thoughts about the movie. Was this movie the Apocalyptic ending to the X-Men franchise or was there a glimmer of hope to be found in this movie? Sit back and listen to these Mutie Lovers, discuss the good, the bad, the ugly!
We talk about the (re?!)introduction of some core X-Men characters… We talk about the demise of X-Men characters… we talk about character development of X-Men characters… and the utter lack of character development for some – well, one – X-Men character… We question things like, “Why didn’t Nightcrawler just teleport out of the cage match?” and “How did those guys lift Blob’s body and carry him out?” and so much more! So I will stop rambling and give you the link now that you’re chomping at the bit to hear our thoughts! (You… are chomping at the bit right? Not literally, but figuratively!)
All right true believer, sit down, accept that Mutant Gene in your DNA and prepare yourself for… AGE OF A-PODCAST!

I’d like to give a special thanks to Adam Johnson, who granted us permission to use his freaking epic Heavy Metal version of the classic X-Men cartoon theme song! You can check out Adam Johnson on Youtube, Bandcamp, iTunes, Google+, Facebook and finally on Twitter!
And if you listen to the entire podcast (just saying… there might be a stinger at the end…) This will make a lot more sense and not seem to be randomly place…
It’s finally done! Free Comic Book Day 2016! This was such an incredible experience. And despite the rain – probably my favorite Free Comic Book Day Podcast that we have done to date! The previous years, we had the opportunity to interview fellow artists, writers, etc., that had been in the comic book community in one way or another… But this year, we offered up free Funko pins for anyone who sat down with us and got on our podcast. As a result, we got quite a few kids to come on the podcast to talk about their favorite comics, characters, movies! And to me, that was just such an amazing experience. I was a pretty timid kid (back in the days when I had to run from dinosaurs, because I am so old! Not that you’d know it by how I act…) And to be able to be a part of something, where we could have these kids who are clearly passionate about comics (that’s why they’re at Free Comic Book Day!) and come onto our podcast and talk about their favorites – was a very magical moment for me. Very special kudos to the interview master, and my co-host on the show, Maico Moreno, for knocking out these interviews and doing such an incredible job! It was five hours of unedited audio that I had to cut my way through, and clear up dead space, fix audio issues (where some folks were not sitting close to the mic) – but in the end, it was well worth it – and I think we came out with a very magical issue of our podcast as a result of all these wonderful people!
Because we had quite a few interviews, while we were also discussing Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War I broke down the interview start times, in case you want to zip to the part where you (or your kid!) was doing an interview on the podcast. All times listed below are the start times by Hour: Minute: Second. So for example, 00:15:13 would be 15 minutes and 13 seconds into the podcast, and 01:45:10 would be one hour, forty five minutes and ten seconds into the podcast. There’s a known issue with streaming it from the site (below) where the times often don’t line up. So the times are better off if you either download the episode or listen to it on iTunes (it should be correct).
My sincere apologies to Dean Lecrone (Dr. Peepers), as I did not get this episode out fast enough – in the episode, you will hear Dean discuss the preview night of the event he was promoting – the event was last night (5/20/2016). However, the rest of the event spawns for four months – so at least that’s still valid! Sorry again, Dean, for not being able to knock this out sooner!
As I said before, because this was Free Comic Book Day, and not recorded in a “controlled environment” (for lack of a better word!), you will notice some spikes in audio where at times, I would have to boost someone’s audio in the edits, because they were not speaking close enough to the mics.
Anyway! Enough of all that! How about I run down the interview times like I promised?

And once again – thank you one and all for coming out and being a part of Free Comic Book Day. A special thanks, as always to Southern California Comics for graciously hosting the event and having us along for the third year in a row! And a very, very, very special thanks to all of you, who came and sat down with us and made this a very, very, very special podcast to me.
Much love,

This isn’t the Free Comic Book Day podcast (still working on that one!), but this one has Maico and I discussing – and debating – Daredevil Season 2 – well, debating a specific thing about Daredevil Season 2. If you’ve watched Daredevil, Season 2, see whose side your own when it comes to the impasse about the one thing that we could not see eye to eye (no pun intended with the blind thing, for Daredevil).
Also in this episode, we talked to Arvin Bautista of Greasy Pig Studio. If you have not yet checked out the website for Greasy Pig Studios I would highly recommend checking it out, along with their Youtube Channel so that you can check out the awesome Dazzler video, which led to the Lila Cheney video (which is loosely based off of New Mutants Annual #1). The video takes the New Mutants (beginning with them leaving Stevie Hunter’s class)! Arvin is clearly very passionate about the subject – and knows his stuff. He digs the obscure characters, and knows how to make them shine. So check out his videos – after you listen to the podcast! Then tell him how awesome his videos are and that we sent you towards him!
Right after speaking with Arvin, we spoke with Dorphise Jean who funded her comic through a successful Kickstarter campaign. Her comic is called Spirit’s Destiny, and focuses on Destiny, a young Haitian woman who is coming to terms with her newfound abilities and the pressure of deciding how to use them. Unfortunately, during our interview with Dorphise, there was quite a bit of audio issues, so a lot of the interview ended up on the cutting room floor. But we were able to salvage about 15 minutes or so of it, and got the main parts of the interview saved. I would highly recommend checking out Dophise’s Facebook page for Spirit’s Destiny, as well as the Spirit’s Destiny website to learn more about this comic!

Despite the silly title of Yawn of Justice, both Maico and I agree, that the movie scored a pretty solid 7 out of 10, on the scale of movies. We both had quite a few issues with some things they did in the movie, but we felt like that was much more the writing and the directing, rather than the actors. We both felt like the actors knocked it out of the park, given what they were handed.
Have you seen Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice? Have you got some thoughts? Listen to our podcast. And if you’re interested in doing so – contact us, and we can schedule a time to possibly record on Skype with you, and discuss whatever feelings and thoughts you had – whether you agreed or disagreed with things we said – or whatever other things you might have thought of, having seen the movie!

Deadpod: Maico With The Mouth, Issue #17.Issue #17 of the Comic Relief Podcast is finally out! In this issue, we focus primarily on Deadpool. You may have heard of him? He had this beautiful, Valentine’s Day themed movie that just came out? Biggest opening for an “R” rated movie – ever? About a man’s struggle against Cancer? It’s a beautiful love story! Well, he also happens to be a smart @$$, potty mouthed, unkillable, mercenary – known as Deadpool – the Merc With The Mouth! The first half of the podcast, we recorded just before the movie came out – and we focus solely on the comic books that have featured Deadpool – the second half of the podcast, Maico discusses his thoughts about the Deadpool movie (Spoiler Alert: It’s nothing but endless raving reviews of goodness – so if you haven’t seen the movie yet – you might consider doing that now!)

We are finally back! There was a long hiatus in there thanks to work trips, vacations, and a general lack of time! But we’re back baby! And back with a vengeance! This is perhaps, the best episode we’ve done! This one, as you might have guessed from the banner above deals exclusively with STAR WARS The Force Awakens! So if you have not yet seen the movie – keep this page bookmarked and do yourself a favor and go see the movie! Because this podcast is FULL of spoilers! Nothing held back here! So. Go. See. The. Movie. Seriously.
If you have already seen the movie – then proceed forward with this podcast!
A very special note – the beginning music in this podcast was done by Taylor Davis. Please check out her video right over here. She has an amazing assortment of musical pieces she’s done – so it’s probably a good idea to subscribe to her Youtube channel. And if you need more Taylor Davis – please, by all means check out her website or check out her online store!
All right – with that said and done, let me tell you – this was the funnest podcast I have had the pleasure of being a part of and editing! I had a lot of fun with this one! Throughout the podcast you will hear various Star Wars sound effects, thanks to the official Star Wars Dot Com – Soundboard. For example, normally I simply “beep” out any cuss words; this time I used the droid from Cloud City that 3PO calls “Rude.” There’s also mention, at times of when we’re talking about various ships, where you will hear them fly by in the background of the podcast! Seriously. This one was so much fun.
One thing I would love you for – seriously – is, if you enjoyed listening to this podcast – please post it somewhere (Facebook, Twitter, etc). Word of mouth does so much and costs nothing. And it would really help get our podcast more recognition.

So, it’s been awhile since we’ve released a new issue of the Comic Relief Podcast -… well, podcast! Last time, as a matter of fact, was March, 2015. That’s right, we’re talking just about 7 months ago. (I can’t even believe it’s been that long!) Well, as it would turn out, we actually attempted to do something a little different in April of 2015 – and do a Video Podcast. However, the kids were there, the television was on in the background – and no amount of editing was going to make this do-able (mostly because I try to make these sound and be every bit as professional sounding as possible; and still have fun!) Well, there was just a lot of background noise and interruptions, so the video went into the back burner. Well, just the other day, I realized how long it had been since we put out a podcast, and I thought, “I should dig out the video we did; edit the video, put it on Youtube, and then rip the audio from the video and just make that a podcast – with interruptions, poor sound quality, and all! Just – let it go! It’s October (and tomorrow is Halloween!) – so why not unleash a spooky sounding episode?”
We have not had the chance to record, due to things happening at our job (that took Maico away for several business trips, for quite a few weeks!) – and just drastic things happening all around! But things are beginning to find their pace again, and we hope to record a proper podcast where we can talk about all these shows that have just started their new season – and including some new shows, such as Supergirl!
In the meantime, here’s the audio from the video podcast, back in April 2015 – keep an eye on our Youtube channel (I will link it here too when it finishes uploading!) for the actual video itself!

Once again, we spent Free Comic Book Day at our home away from home – Southern California Comics. Jamie and his crew ran an excellent event – kept everything flowing. Kept everyone motivated. There was a food truck (BBQ), Shaved Ice, a Bat Mobile – plus more toys, comics, artists and collectables than you could possibly imagine! So Kudos (and a great thanks!) to Jamie for hosting another event and having us along! While, unfortunately, we didn’t get to properly celebrate our bro-mance bro-niversary with our good friend, Chad Cavanaugh (because there were a lot more artists this year, and Jamie created an Artist Alley type row!) – he’s the writer, creator, inker, everything-er of The Map Comic and now the newly released “Trouble in Bedlam” comic, we did sit next to Colleen Archer, who we have mentioned a thousand times in posts and what not as our partner in crime – she was in the booth next to us, showing off her Wyng’d Lyon Creations stuff! We also had some great music from Gabriel and his band Digital Lizards of Doom.
Anyway, the event was (as I said awesome!) And now you can listen to us talk about it, talk to people, and just generally be geeky nerds.
