  • 5 Minute Drill | How to Stop Bringing Bad Days Home with You

When you bring a bad day home with you, everyone suffers. In today's 5-Minute Drill, J.R. will help you transition better between the roles you play in life, especially the transition between the professional you to the personal you. This will be especially helpful if you struggle to "turn off" a bad performance when you leave your place of work - whether it be stadium, office, or home office. Monday's Special Guest, Dr. Anthony Randall, talked about having short memory loss, so J.R.'s going to help you with that today. LET'S GET IT!

    [09:34 - 15:15] What's The Drill?

    • #1: Learn from the bad stuff
      • Identify what went wrong and what you can do about it

    • #2: Relive the good stuff
      • Relieve what went right through visualization. If you can't recall a moment exactly like your current one, relive something that was similar to it

    • #3: Reflect on what you're thankful for
      • Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness.
      • Gratitude helps deal with adversities better
      • Gratitude helps your relationship - Individuals who took time to express gratitude towards their partner not only felt positive toward the other person but also felt more comfortable expressing concerns about their relationship
      • Managers who remember to say "thank you" to people who work for them may find that those employees feel motivated to work harder.
      • Research: Harvard Article, "Giving thanks can make you happier"

    • #4: Set intention for the next stuff
      • Identify the ONE thing you're going to do next with excellence
      • Then, note WHY you're going to do this…why is it so important? What emotions will YOU or the people around you experience as a result of you doing this thing with excellence. We list our motivation because WHYpower is stronger than WILLpower.
      • MOST important part: visualize you doing it

    [19:41 - 22:44] Wrapping Up!

  • 5 Minute Drill | Upgrade Your Self-Talk to Increase Your Success

In today's 5-Minute Drill, J.R. digs into a more effective alternative to affirmations. He's going to share a strategy that actually works when it comes to positive self-talk and affirmations as a way to increase confidence - because there's a big misconception about affirmations out there. Too many people are taking this wrong approach and actually hurting themselves mentally and emotionally more than helping. LET'S GET IT!

[00:01 - 06:17] Is Your Affirmation Helping or Hurting You?

    • Backstory on a broken affirmation
    • When you say an affirmation to yourself, but don't believe it, it's ineffective

    [06:18 - 09:24] What's the Drill?

    • Step 1: Identify where you're lacking confidence. If you can dig into the exact feelings you're feeling, even better.

    • Step 2: Hit the recall button through visualization.
      • If it helps you, get in a quiet place and close your eyes.
      • Think about all the times you felt this way…felt this lack of confidence before.
      • Start collecting mental notes of all the things you did to overcome it and move past it.
      • Are there any specific victories you had as a result?

    • Step 3: Create a Victories Vault
      • Come out of your visualization and write it all down.
      • WHENEVER you're in a place where you forgot how you've overcome these stretches and struggles in your life and career, you can pull up your vault to remind you of the character traits you have and the behaviors you did.

    • Step 4: Attach a TRUTH to your AFFIRMATION
      • I am _______ (affirmation) because ________ (truth)

  • Andre Wadsworth | How to Refocus After Failure

Failing sucks. But we can't have success without learning from it. In today's episode, J.R. sits down with former 3rd overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, entrepreneur, and investor, Andre Wadsworth. You'll have NO excuse to let failure overtake you after listening to Andre's story and advice.

Andre was a 3rd overall pick out of Florida State after not receiving any D1 scholarship offers out of high school. Ironically, Andre chose FSU because of its business school, not football. He ended up walking on the football team and becoming one of the most accomplished student-athletes in FSU history and was enshrined into its Hall of Fame in 2004. In addition to being a remarkable athlete, Andre is a strong man of faith, father of four beautiful and talented daughters, entrepreneur, and investor.

Formerly, Andre was a minority owner of the AFL franchise, the Austin Wranglers, and co-owner of All Pro Imports Automotive Group. Today, he's owner of several Creamistry ice cream locations, along with having an investment portfolio that includes several companies in the marketing and tech space. If that wasn't enough, Andre is also the Executive Pastor of the Scottsdale-based church he founded, Impact Church Arizona.

  • 5 Minute Drill | Embrace Your Next Best Step for Sustainable Success

J.R. gets into the topic of momentum in this week's 5-Minute Drill. Too many talented athletes and executives struggle in their day-to-day life because they're overwhelmed by big goals or big projects. The root cause: the 0 to 100 mentality. Because of it, high achievers are drowning in overwhelm and frustration. J.R. is going to help you apply what Monday's Guest, Dr. Patrick Bisher, calls the 1% Mentality. If you lock in to today's Drill, it will prevent YOU from going down the overwhelm spiral. LET'S GET IT!

    [00:01 - 13:55] What's the Drill?

    • Step 1: Give yourself some grace. If there's an area of your life where you're not making progress, forgive yourself.
    • Step 2: Engage the best, future version of you. Get in a place where you can close your eyes, engage with your body and breath, and visualize you having a conversation over coffee, or dinner, with that version of you.
