Commander ad Populum

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, it's all about Worldwake. It was the second set in the original Zendikar block and featured many Commander-playable cards. Two of which are considered among the most powerful cards to ever be printed into the Standard format. And a certain planeswalker that is considered in the conversation of best card ever printed!

If you'd like to give me your thoughts on today's topics, hit me up on Twitter @CadPopCast. Make sure to check out the CadPop Community Spotlight on Twitter as well. It has the social media tags for all the great people, and channels, mentioned. You can find me on Facebook, here: Facebook.com/CadPopCast. Both the Twitter and Facebook feeds have threads for each episode of Commander ad Populum. Let me know what you think.

If you'd like to support Commander ad Populum or my altered-art Magic card business, you can pledge on Patreon, here: Patreon.com/CadPopCast. There are a bunch of great benefits associated with being a patron. Especially if you're into altered-art cards!

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, it's all about Zendikar.  The abilities. The cards. The Priceless Treasures. Zendikar had an undeniable impact on Magic! Join me to recount some of the ways it was one of Magic's most important sets ever.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week's Community Section expands on my automotive industry analogy, from last week. I dive deep into how similar the two hobby industries actually are. Both have evolved over the years to include all manner of people. From old school muscle cars to the most cutting edge Formula 1 technology. From the days of old, before precons, all the way up to the most cutting edge cEDH partner lists. There's certainly a lot the two hobbies can teach each other.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week's Community Section focuses on the year that was 2020. We had a ton of new products! Some great, format changing classics. Some, not so much. Was there too many? Join me to recap and hear about my thoughts on product/wallet fatigue.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week's Community Section focuses on a few creators that I interact with via social media and their individual Discord servers. Additionally, I touch on some larger groups with welcoming communities. I encourage everyone to go out to the various social platforms that I discuss and meet new people. There are a ton of people out there, just like you!

Our Technical Section and set retrospective covers everything you need to know on the set Alara Reborn! Concluding Shards Block, Alara Reborn represents Magic's first and only all-multicolored set. Additionally, it gave us the Cascade Mechanic. A mechanic that is probably worth its own episode! Come learn all about it.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week's Community Section looks back at my funniest memory during an MtG drinking game and hopes to inspire people to make plans for when it's safe to gather again. Better yet, jump on a streaming service or Spelltable and make some new MtG memories. It's never too late to engage with friends and create new lasting memories. Especially when this holiday season has a good chance of being less-than-stellar.

Our Technical Section and set retrospective covers everything you need to know on the set Conflux! Running back all of Shards of Alara's abilities, Conflux did have several MtG firsts. First printings of iconic Commander cards, as well as first-ever ability words giving names to classic Magic mechanics.

Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people.

This week, we take our first look at the plane of Alara and the set Shards of Alara. That's right, we're spending an entire episode highlighting the abilities, commanders, format staples and hidden gems from Shards of Alara in this week's set retrospective and associated technical sections!

Five shards, five abilities, five times the fun for me in 2008 when I was first getting back into Magic. Come join me!
