Xolani reflects on the KwaZulu-Natal government this week announcing that it will spend fifty million rand to provide free sanitary pads to learners in about 2000 poverty-stricken schools in the current financial year. There’s been campaigns to make sanitary pads tax free. So far they have not succeeded, which is a real pity.
President Jacob Zuma in 2011 promised that government will work towards providing free sanitary but this promise, like others, need the political will for them to become a reality. Xolani applauds KZN’s Education MEC, Mthandeni Dlungwana for championing the cause. We hope others will take heed and follow your example.
