Commentary Companions: The Podcast!

To honor the film’s 30th anniversary and to honor the memory of the film’s star, Tim Curry, I’m doing an audio commentary on Muppet Treasure Island, the last collaborative project between Jim Henson’s family and Disney before the Mouse House bought The Muppets. It’s a bittersweet episode for sure.

Commentary Companions has officially reached the end of the Marvel movies NOT set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The New Mutants. We’ve certainly come a long way looking at every single Marvel movie prior and after Iron Man. It’s just a shame that the last X-Men movie set before the MCU had to be something as underwhelming as The New Mutants, a film more famous for being delayed four times! But with all that considered, maybe there is value in this last X-Men film, right?

As I near the end of the non-MCU Commentary Companions series, I take a look at Dark Phoenix, or X-Men: Dark Phoenix if you’re pedantic, Fox’s second attempt at adapting the Dark Phoenix Saga from the comics. Is this as bad as I remember or is there some redeeming moments in this mess? Let’s fly into space and take a look at the final movie in the X-Men prequel series.

In this episode of Commentary Companions, I’m doing an audio commentary of Deadpool 2, the sequel to introduce Cable and Domino, only for us to never see them again in Deadpool and Wolverine! There’s a lot to unpack as I look back at this worthy sequel. I should point out that, I’m talking about the theatrical release, not the unrated Super Duper Cut, and not the PG-13 version known as Once Upon A Deadpool.

In this episode of Commentary Companions, I’m doing an audio commentary of the 2017 movie Logan, the third solo Wolverine movie that was the final outing of the character for Hugh Jackman and was also notable for introducing Dafne Keen as X-23 to audiences. Does Logan still leave the same impact after Deadpool and Wolverine? Only one way to find out.

In this 50th episode of Commentary Companions (45th if you don’t count the five non commentary podcast episodes), I’m doing an audio commentary on X-Men Apocalypse, the last X-Men movie to be directed by Bryan Singer before his fall from grace. Does this film hold up 10 years later? Only one way to find out.

To celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, I’m doing an audio commentary on Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, often considered one of Disney’s darkest animated movies. Does this Victor Hugo adaptation hold up 30 years later? I have a hunch!

On this podcast episode to celebrate the 4th of July, I’ll be talking about the movie history of Captain America before Chris Evans portrayed the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some of these adaptations have significance, even if the quality isn’t great and the stories deviate from the source material. But what better way is there to celebrate America’s 250th birthday than to talk about one of Marvel’s most patriotic and morale boosting characters as he evolved with us. I can do this all day.

Today I’m doing an audio commentary on Deadpool, the first follow-up to X-Men Days of Future Past and the first X-Men spinoff movie to get an R rating. Does it still hold up 10 years later? Let’s get some chimichangas and find out!

Today I am unfortunately doing an audio commentary for Fantastic Four (2015), otherwise stylistically known as “FANT4STIC.” Yeah, of all the Marvel films produced by Fox, this one’s definitely the worst. At least we can suffer this together.
