In this episode, we discuss a more professional side of things. We take our experiences working together and shed light on the possible professional journeys we will embark on in 2023.

We also take a dive into the entertainment side of things and how the media we consume shapes how we ultimately interact with the world around us. As a species that consumes, we are constantly being delivered different messages and ideas. These messages are influencing the very world around us and making our goal of building genuine connections in the real world all that more difficult.

With season 2022 of Earth officially over, Knives Monroe returns for our year in review episode. A lot of things happened this past year so there was a lot to talk about.

We start off discussing physical and mental health, both of which played different roles in each our lives this year. Knives was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and I received a Gastritis diagnosis. Experiencing this has us both reassessing our day to day lives and how we’re living so we do our best to expand on what some next steps are.

 We then dive into professional moments that we both experienced this year. From making a film to getting fired; both Knives and I have been on a roller coaster of emotions from a professional sense. As we arrive at the “next level” so to speak, we discuss the different ways of navigating our lives and careers into 2023

Welcome to episode 100 and to 2023. We made it to both landmark moments for better or worse. As the podcast continues to grow and evolve I share some thoughts and themes for myself and this never-ending project in this coming year. Those themes include: change, time, investment, and support. Each having their own impact and implications on the year to come.

How do these themes relate to you? How do you plan on spending the beginning part of 2023? What happened in 2022 that got you to where you are now? A lot of questions to ponder going into the new year.

Beyond that we will take a look at the year that was 2022 from a cultural perspective. We will cover some highs, some lows and some in betweens as we turn the calendar page over to a new year. What dramas will unfold 2023? What miracles will take place in 2023? Only one way to find out, tune in.

Matt Musselwhite is a long time friend of mine. He is the creator of the Scene Radio and iHatetheScene podcasts which existed on MySpace from 2008-2013. For well over a decade, Matt has been a somewhat prominent voice within the metal and hardcore music scenes. The exposure along with his professional career in radio allowed him to take on many different roles within the music industry, while establishing his own unique brand of entertainment.

After traveling the country and experiencing life both on and off the stage, Matt decided to re-launch the iHatetheScene podcast in early 2020. 2 years and 124 episodes later, iHTS has finally ended, tune in to find out why.

Mental health in general encompasses a wide variety of things. Regardless of who we are or what our genetic make up is; we all experience our own mental health journeys. With that being said, is it possible that we are preventing ourselves from capitalizing on our bodies ability to thrive at maximum capacity?

In this episode I talk about how small behavioral changes lead to some pretty big improvements in overall mental well being. From a change in dietary habits, to a change in daily routines, the ability to understand and learn from our own emotions, feelings, etc, is an important part of figuring our lives out.

Health and wellness have been very prevalent topics over the course of the last 3 years. With all this attention on health, you would think that it’d be easy for people to get their own health into check. Unfortunately, there’s no magic health method that is the end all be all in terms of improvement. No remedy or cure can restore our health to full capacity or to perfect condition. Over time our vessels and their operational state start wearing thin. If we’re not careful, that time will creep up on us, and it’ll be too late to do anything about it. 

There are ways, however, where we can gain control of our health through understanding the different factors of health and how they relate to us individually. For me, health has been something I thought I was dialed in on. I was attentive, calculated to a degree, and seeing results. Yet here I am experiencing some set backs.

Be it physical or mental, internal or external; health is the foundation of our existence and if we truly want to start maximizing our time here, our health needs to be put in to check. I believe taking control of ones health starts with finding the proper tools and resources necessary to educate oneself. After that, it’s all about the individual actions we take to get the results we desire.

In this episode I am joined by my lovely wife Rebecca Kern. Rebecca recently got admitted to to the University of Texas and will soon embark on her journey towards a Bachelor’s degree in linguistics. We discuss our past year together including our wedding and subsequent life events that seem to keep us moving in an unknown direction.

We dive in what our mindsets were going into 2022 and how we have faced the different challenges that have presented themselves thus far, and what we intend to do to continue to make 2022 our bitch.

This episode was a concoction of survival and self expression and eventually self deprecation. I know that doesn’t make much sense now, but it will. I recently graduated at the ripe old age of 34. That combined with recently receiving my purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and starting a new career has me feeling a bit out of place. I also just got over having COVID, so I had nothing but time to sit and think about my life choices, which is never good. Perhaps it’s imposter syndrome, perhaps its my difficulty accepting good things. regardless, recent events are fueling me with things to talk about and work out. Oh yea, I also lost out on a million dollar contract which is something I have never experienced before and not sure I want to again.

I share a few stories from this past week that really put me in an interesting whirlwind of emotions. I have been recovering all week from the normal, mundane, everyday grind, mixed with the rush of public intoxication, or perhaps, the need to feel alive. Especially after encountering a near death experience in the form of a wasp. 

The title of this episode is inspired by the words my friend Khalil Kennedy used to describe our experience during Saturdays event, which is the first story of this podcast.
