Our long-time friend Britan stopped by to share her story with us. She touches on self-harm, getting hooked on the acceptance that drugs and alcohol brought to her life and coming back to the rooms after a long relapse. We attempt to tackle the idea of whether women have a more difficult time getting and staying sober or not, time travel, and new perspectives on the program after relapse. It's very hot in LA and the sweat is real on this episode.

We had our friend James come by to talk to us about his journey to sobriety. He talked growing up splitting time between Colorado and Los Angeles and how he quickly developed into a real deal addict and alcoholic, all the while knowing what he was doing. We then move the conversation to honesty (or at least tried to) and got into all types of trauma response talk and all admitted our lack of trust for literally anyone. Evan cuts everyone down, Shannon is built of trauma responses, Diana's got a mean sneeze on her, but we all ultimately chime in on the honesty topic.

Benji Love is a suicide prevention activist and works at a faith based treatment center in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Benji talks us through his childhood as a Philippino kid in a largely white town in the bay area, how drugs and alcohol gained him access to popularity, and how this coping skill ultimately led him to a suicide attempt on a beach in San Diego County. Diana dishes out relationship advice, Shannon is really into baby bottle pops right now and Evan is speechless. 

This week on Common Peril we have our friend Mehruz "Moose" Sahafi on to talk about growing up in Malibu, literally learning nothing in school, finding his crowd and pulling off the greatest (not) golf card battery heist Malibu has ever seen, all the while developing a mean addiction for pretty much anything that was put in front of him. We discuss him getting tricked into his first treatment center and eventually finding YPAA and finding his people in sobriety.

The gang is all here. Worm graces us with his presence for this episode which features a light sprinkling of recovery talk and a heavy dose of everything but. We discuss middle-school memories, love, marriage, astrology, time travel (kind of), our international fans and we wrap it up by addressing Diana's stalker. Elliott Paulson is a life coach that recently started a YouTube channel called "Bridging the Gap." Elliott describes growing up in New Jersey, moving to California and the progression of his drinking and using until the point he felt he needed to do something about it. He also tells us about his adoption of listening to motivational speakers into his routine as well as using a 12-step program to keep his demons at bay. Diana just wants a billboard, Shannon remembers her first belly-laugh of sobriety, and Evan wants to change the world. As per usual we talk all sorts of recovery related topics as well as plenty of life stuff as well. 

Colton Kirkegaard is a previsualization artist based in West LA. Colton talks about growing up in the San Diego area, playing football for Poway High, pledging a fraternity in College, the events that led him to get sober and also how he decided on what he wanted to do with his life. Colton basically tells Evan's story, Shannon is excited because we got an email, The Worm is in a funk, and Diana tries to leave early without the listeners noticing. We address the topic of "not listening to our heads" as suggested by a listener and delve into all kinds of other recovery related topics.

Andrew Eaton is sober af and works in sales here in Los Angeles. We all know Andrew from earlier in our sobrieties and his daily program makes us wonder if we are really doing this thing. He shares all kinds of wild stories from his past and walks us through his path to sobriety. Shannon starts off the episode angry, Evan and Diana really question their own programs and Andrew has a list of stories we didn't even put a dent in. 

Mike Heimann is an aspiring writer and sober member our friend group. He discusses growing up near Chicago in a tumultuous household and finding partying as an identity. He discusses finding writing as a passion and a discipline that has helped him deal with sobriety. Shannon tries to find "her skateboarding," Evan has a mini meltdown, Diana introduces the group to "spiritual bypass," and, sadly, the worm is at work. We get into all types of other recovery related topics and have a lot of fun on this one.

The relaxed fit episode. We decided to do an episode on Monday because we enjoy our own company. The Worm has returned from his trip and is a bug bitten mess. Shannon took the earthquakes a little too seriously. Diana and Evan are at each other's necks due to a pre-podcast game of chess and Evan shares his experience with EMDR and makes everyone cry. We do our meeting check-in and discuss where we are at this early in the week in our recovery.
