A few days ago I received a phone call from a concerned citizen, and he wanted me to explain to him how would be the best way for him and his group to proceed was trying to get something before a city and or County Council.
I don't think he was very happy with my answer.
I was always told my mama never tell a lie. Because then you have to tell a lie to cover up the first lie, then another lie to cover up a second line excetera excetera excetera, and then before you know it you don't remember what the truth was.
Now this fine young lad called me and asked me this because, I was a Volusia County chair, and I was privy to all of the situations that were happening in our County, and I knew how to get things in front of the council.
Now when I sat on the County Council, I sat with what is considered very weird to have. An opened mind.
I would review all the facts of these cases shall we say, do the boots on the ground investigation, shake hands with people talk to both sides of the issue, and I would start to formulate my opinions
Of course this is what you would think any good County councilmember would do, you're right, a good one would do this. But alas, not a lot of them did this.
I suppose that is one reason why I put over 40,000 miles on my car every year for the four years I was in office.
At any rate, when the issue came before the County Council I would sit there on the diets, I would listen to both sides of the issue, again, and I would then call for a vote.
When I went into the council meeting that morning, I had a idea as to how I was going to vote on a particular issue.
For you see I've done the research, talk to people, I've looked at the situation physically oh, I did my job as you elected me to do.
Sometimes while I was sitting on the diocese listening to these issues, one of the speakers would bring up a point, or a fact, that I didn't know because it wasn't brought to my attention when I was boots on the ground walking around whatever piece of property, or looking at a building, or observing what was going on in that issue, during my initial investigations.
And it generally was not anything like a statement made like it's for the children, or it's for the manatees are turtles or anything like that.
In other words, to change my mind on the byas oh, you had to be a lot more than just arbitrary.
I think I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, so let me digress and explain to you the process once again of how government addresses your issues
What does pick an issue if we can, and let's make it a big one, water clarity.
That was you may have known, and have heard from my previous podcast, I've done extensive research and investigation into the clarity of the water over intercoastal waterways.
I know for fact, that septic tanks are the best sewage treatment system available to us. Just sheer volume of affluent, City and County Wastewater treatment plants are bad.
And as you may have heard, read, listen to commentary about it, everybody in government, or who support government, want everybody on a huge water treatment plant of some sort.
So there is a group of citizens, taxpaying citizens no less, that want to retain their personal septic systems.
Now then these folks have done research, had speakers, had scientific data presented to them in a meeting and it came out with the known results. Personally owned septic systems do not, and I say again do not, add to the influx of nitrogen and solids into our waterways.
This fact has been backed up by scientific data. Unbiased scientific data.
Also these individuals have had independent studies done on their septic systems, to check for nitrogen infiltration into the ground, and groundwater systems, and found that they are Solo that you...
