  • Connecticut Housing Finance Authority
Nandini Natarajan, is the Chief Executive Officer for CHFA

The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, CHFA, is a quasi-public agency, with a mission to increase the availability of affordable housing. CHFA accomplishes this mission in two ways:

Providing low-interest rate mortgages to first-time homebuyers with low- and moderate-incomes
Providing financing to developers to build new or renovate existing affordable multifamily rental housing
CHFA, founded in 1969, is self-funding and generates its revenue by issuing bonds in the financial markets, using the proceeds of the bond sales to finance affordable housing.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, CHFA has been reaching out to all of its customers and partners to share information on housing relief and regulatory requirements during the COVID-10 pandemic. www.CHFA.org

: At Narragansett Creamery, we make cheese everyday because we love to and because we believe in freshness. We use local milk, kind bacteria, vegetable-based rennet, salt and nothing else. While we are not certified organic, we are thoughtful in our actions and our purchases. We support fair-trade and local ingredients to the best of our ability and our farmers pledge to not use growth hormones. We are proud to be a family-owned company supported by the Southern New England community we belong to.

  • Hartford Athletic: Shop For A Cause
HARTFORD, Conn. (August 20, 2020) – Today, Hartford Athletic launched Shop For A Cause, a new community initiative dedicated to helping local businesses get back on their feet as they continue to navigate the economic challenges of COVID-19. The event runs from October 9-11th. All participating businesses will donate a portion of their proceeds to Foodshare.

“We are so excited to launch Shop For A Cause as we continue to grow and deepen our community presence,” said Hartford Athletic CEO Jim Burda. “It is important that we, as a community, show our support to the many retail businesses and restaurants that have been challenged financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shop For A Cause is a great opportunity to support both local businesses and Foodshare, whose employees have worked tirelessly during this pandemic to make sure everyone has food on their table.”

Participating businesses will display blue and green balloons outside of their locations to show customers they are participating in the event, and may run a special if they so choose. • Nutmeg Big Brothers and Big Sisters
Our waiting list has grown during the past several months – not surprising during this time of unprecedented anxiety and confusion. It’s why we’ve just launched a mentor recruitment campaign we’re calling 50 For Fall. Our goal is to recruit 50 mentors (or more) before September 22.

Since most of the kids on our statewide waiting list are boys, we really need male mentors. We especially need male mentors of color because a lot of those waiting list kids happen to be boys of color. If you think you’d like being the catalyst that helps change a young person’s life for the better, you might be the perfect mentoring candidate. Or, maybe you have a friend, family member or business associate who’d make an inspirational mentor.

Mentoring is fun, doesn’t take much, time and doesn’t require special qualifications. And, as one of our current mentors recently said, “It’s the most rewarding experience ever!”

For those who weren’t able to tune in to Andy Fleischmann’s interview on NBC Connecticut’s late morning news program at 11:45 a.m., here’s an opportunity to view it now by clicking on the link below. In the 4-minute interview, Andy talks to news anchor Kevin Nathan about Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and about the organization’s new 50 For Fall recruitment campaign – designed to persuade 50 male volunteers from the communities Nutmeg serves to step up and become Big Brothers to boys in need of an inspirational friend, sounding board and role model to help those boys realize their great potential.
