Farmington Community Services sponsors several inter-generational programs for the community. Through this endeavor, we are proud to support Farmington High School’s special dinner concert each spring for local seniors, featuring performances by the very talented FHS Music Department. It is a wonderful opportunity to bring two generations together with a common love of music.



While activities have gone virtual in the past months due to COVID-19, many seniors have been left uninvolved without access to livestreaming sites and social media. Social isolation is one of the biggest threats to the health of seniors and has become amplified by the pandemic. Farmington Community Services would like to partner with iHeartRadio to offer seniors a familiar connection through a special show on June 14th called “Seniors for Seniors,” showcasing “songs of hope” recorded by FHS students from the class of 2020.



This show will be dedicated to all Farmington Valley seniors and anyone feeling the burden of loneliness through this trying time. It will be promoted via social media as well as mailings to more than 1,500 residents.


Throughout the pandemic, Farmington Community Services staff have been working diligently to help residents facing hardship, as well as developing creative solutions and supportive programs to meet the need of our community and most vulnerable populations.

What all the ERs across the country are finding is that people are still staying away due to COVID fears and the fact that the messaging at the start of COVID was to stay away from ERs unless you really needed to be there. Unfortunately many ended up dying at home or staying away too long so that they were critically ill on arrival.

Our hope is to convince people it is safe to come to the ER or hospital to avoid the delays that led to catastrophic consequences for people.

This is the story of Katy, a lactose intolerant nurse, and Gwen, a sympathetic sweet tooth who couldn’t stand the thought of people going through life without ice cream. The pair both grew up loving ice cream but, by the time they met at Villanova University, Katy had become lactose intolerant. She tried all the alternatives – soy, almond, coconut and more – but they just didn’t cut it. So she churned up something better – REAL ice cream, without the lactose. Finally, Gwen and Katy could share the same pint and no one had to compromise. They decided that no one should have to miss out on ice cream because of lactose intolerance, so they teamed up to bring the joy of real ice cream to all with Beckon.
