Olympic Gold Medalist and Cancer Survivor Scott Hamilton is bringing his SK8 TO ELIMIN8 CANCER events to the International Skating Center in Simsbury CT from April 28th-30th. Together we can turn cancer upside down! The weekend includes a Frozen 5K public skate; a youth 3v3 Hockey Tournament; topped off with an Ice Show, emceed by Scott Hamilton himself, featuring 2x Olympic Gold Medalist Katia Gordeeva, 2023 US medalist Max Naumov, and many other special guests! We will be at the walks on May 6th in West Hartford - I’ll be your emcee and October 7th in Branford with Kerry Collins as your emcee. Interviewed are Jennifer Rossi, MADD CT Program Specialist and one of the most beautiful humans I’ve ever met, Priscilla Johnson-Headley who lost two of her sons Kaivon & Kii in one accident. Alexia Woodruff and Abigail (Abbey) Riley are both grad students, finishing the Prosthetics and Orthotics program at UHart this spring. They also did their undergrad at UHart and joined Associate Professor Duffy Felmlee, for 10 days on a goodwill trip to Kenya to work with under-served children who are missing limbs (either born that way, or lost them due to trauma). This was done in partnership with the Limb Kind Foundation. The team left for Kenya on March 24th. They lived at the hospital, creating prosthetics for the children. You can also help them fundraise for special shoes that can go on the kids’ prosthetics and grow with them over time, so they will hopefully last for years. The shoes are called “Shoes That Grow.”
