Have you ever read the Bible, but felt like nothing changes in your life? It’s very informative, and I know what I “should” do, but I can’t seem to change. Why is that? It’s because the word of God was meant to be “heard” and “entrusted” through other believers. In other words, the church is God’s place of transformation! Through sound doctrine, grace-filled relationships, and intergenerational influence we are changed.

Every time you swallow, turn on your computer, start your car, drive through a green light, lay down to rest…you are depending on truths! Truths are the structures upon which we build our lives. In a culture where truth is under attack, believers have been given the challenge of being the “pillars and support of truth.” (1 Tim. 3:15). What are the implications of that? How can we support each other in that? That bottom line is that the church (ecclesia) exists to uphold the truth!

What is church? How does it help me? In God’s design, church offers me the place where I belong. If you come from a broken family, the
church is described as a “household”. If you live in a broken country, the church is described as a “kingdom” of which we are “citizens”. If you don’t know where you belong, the church is described as a “building” where “God dwells”. Be encouraged this weekend that God has provided the church as a place for you to belong.

“I’m good with Jesus, I just don’t like the church.”
This weekend we are going to address the joys and challenges of being part of a local church. Our culture fosters the maverick- someone who does not see herself as part of the whole. What is God’s design? What is God’s purpose? How are we better together?

This weekend we will be looking at probably the best known and most beloved story that Jesus told. From Luke 15 we see the story of “The Lost Son”, or “The Prodigal Son”. This is a very personal topic since we all know someone or someones who have wandered away from the Lord and ended up very far from “home”. They may be a friend or a neighbor. They may be your son or daughter or brother or sister. In fact, you may be the one who has wandered away. As we study versus’ 11- 24 I want us to understand a couple of things. First, what is the heart of this father for his lost son? Second, what are the things that had to happen before this young man was ready to begin his road back home. May God give us faith to keep praying for those who are dear to Him but lost, and may we understand that God is always calling the prodigals back home.

Jesus talked more about money than about love. Why is that? Huh! Money is a mirror. It reflects the deeper things of who we are and what we value. We have great potential in how we handle our wealth, but we can also fall into great heartache when we don’t see God’s purpose for money.

This weekend, Jason and I will be sharing about some next steps with CFC. After that, I will be doing a study from Proverbs on planning.
Are you spontaneous, or more of a planner? If we are going to be committed followers of Christ, then shouldn’t we just take each day as God delivers it to us? Some would say that, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Is that true? Are there areas in your life that need a plan? What do the Proverbs say about planning?

This weekend is going to be a hot one! (Feels like 112ºF)
The Red Sea crossing is a prime example of a time when God seemed to be silent. God intentionally led His people into a difficult spot in order to set them free from thinking that they were in control. In truth, God is in control, and we find freedom through our own “Red Sea” experiences.

What do you do when you feel like God is silent? You may find yourself asking, “Is He mad? Is He distracted with other things? Are His promises still true? Does He still love me?” In our passage you can feel the determination Asaph has to trust in the dependability of God. Join us this weekend to be sharpened in how we deal with the tension between what we feel and what we believe to be true about God.
