April 12 & 14, 2018
Lead Pastor, Bobby Parschauer
If I were honest, left to myself, I would live my life entirely self-absorbed…but I’m not sure that it would achieve what I really long for. The image of Christ on the cross was my first depiction of self-less love (I was five). This love has never stopped impacting my life. It’s an open invitation…oneness with the Father…glory, …love beyond our imagination! This weekend, let’s take a closer look at the irresistible love of Christ and see how it impacts our lives.

I’m surprised! I don’t “radiate” God’s manifest glory to others in ways I would assume. It certainly is not done by impressive strokes of Christian service, or by smiles and glorious times. How do we reflect God’s glory to others? This weekend we get to lean in and listen to a private prayer as Jesus talks to the Father and prepares for the cross. What we learn may surprise you.

We’re in the Easter season and preparing for a glorious day of celebration—the resurrection of Jesus. In the run up to Easter we’re kicking off a mini-series called “Into the Light,” a three-week exploration of one of Jesus’ final prayers from John 17. This week as we explore the first five verses of that prayer, when Jesus is praying for himself, we’ll get us a courtside view of Jesus’ relationship to God the Father.

At times we can have a love/hate relationship to our church experiences. What should the expectations be? Encouraging groups are awesome! It’s amazing what we can do to support each other. Our passage for this weekend offers some great suggestions on how to keep breathing life into each other.

On the last day of 1999 I flew from New York to Vienna. The plane was almost empty, so I stretched out on five seats and just slept the night away! What the news media had projected about Y2K never happened. Computers didn’t crash and neither did planes. Conversely, what God says, does happen! He has proven His words throughout history. This weekend we are going to look at the power of future! I can use the future image of the return of Christ to propel me forward.

Be encouraged today! The return of Christ could come at any moment. If you are in Christ, you will rise to a destiny that is almost indescribable. It will erase every doubt in your heart that has ever made you wonder whether God loves you.

Are you curious what God’s will for your life is? What should you be doing with your life? What path should you take? What kind of work should you be doing? How are you to invest your resources? Paul clearly answers these and more questions for the Thessalonians and for us today. What may be a clear answer is not a simple call. Yet the call of God to us is one where he overflows in our own lives and to those around us.

How do you become something? Doesn’t it take intentional training over time? Whether you want to become a pilot, or an accountant, you need others who will teach you what you need to know and then lots of practice. Paul was intentional with the new church at Thessalonica. He sent Timothy to help them become “established in the faith.” What does that mean? What was happening for them to grow and become so effective over time? I love what this chapter reveals.

Most people don’t like conflict; face-to-face that is. (Online anything goes). Speaking of conflict. If you accept God’s word, then it puts you in direct opposition to the world. Why? Because the world will tolerate just about anything except for the idea that there are absolute truths and absolute authority. This weekend, let’s take a closer look at what it means to accept God’s word, how to navigate some of the pressure and yet maintain joy and perspective.
