Models that utilise learning tend to be small and typically fail to scale up to general real world applications. This talk presents a theoretical approach to understanding both human cognition and the problems a general learning robot must face. This is used to present a single model, with the iCub robot, applied to the multiple developmental stages of language acquisition. Phishing has been a recognised threat for over a decade and continues to represent a significant issue for the individuals and organisations that might fall victim.

Steven Furnell examines the problem still posed by the classic phishing messages, which get sent out in an ad hoc manner in the hope of hooking victims.

The problem can be exacerbated when legitimate emails are still sent with characteristics that users are advised to regard as hallmarks of phishing.

Steven Furnell talks to Eugene Kaspersky, CEO and Co-Founder of Kaspersky Lab about the changing nature of online threats and the things that individuals and organisations need to be doing as a consequence. Steven Furnell reexamines the ongoing challenges posed by passwords, including continued bad practice and lack of support offered to users. While problems are likely to persist, there are now signs of viable alternatives being offered in some contexts. While none represent a panacea, they may reduce dependency upon passwords and offer options better matched to users’ authentication needs.
