3:05pm- Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the next head of the Roman Catholic Church—selecting the name Pope Leo XIV. A Chicago native and graduate of Villanova University in Pennsylvania, he is the first American to become pope. According to reports, he has been critical of “transgender ideology” because “it seeks to create genders that don’t exist.”
3:20pm- While speaking with the press, President Donald Trump said it was a “great honor” to have a pope from the United States of America and that Pope Leo XIV has already requested a meeting.
3:30pm- On Thursday, President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new trade agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom. Under the agreement, the UK has agreed to increase market access for $5 billion in American exports—specifically: ethanol, beef, fruits, vegetables, animal feed, shellfish, textiles, chemicals, and machinery. The Trump Administration’s 10% tariff on UK imports will remain in place—though, UK tariffs on U.S. imports will fall from 5.1% to 1.8%, according to Trump.
3:40pm- While speaking with the press, President Trump hinted that more trade agreements will soon be announced and noted that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will be meeting with Chinese trade officials this weekend. The U.S. currently has a 145% reciprocal tariff on Chinese goods.
