The Guilt of Sin and the Wrath We Deserved
In this episode of
Confessional Moments, we turn to Westminster Confession of Faith 6.6, where the Confession speaks soberly and honestly about the nature and consequences of sin. Every sin—original and actual—brings guilt, places the sinner under God’s righteous wrath, and subjects humanity to death and misery.
This paragraph confronts modern attempts to soften sin, redefine guilt, or separate God’s law from His judgment. Yet it also prepares the way for the gospel by showing us why Christ’s saving work is so necessary and so glorious. When the law speaks clearly, grace shines brightly.
This episode calls listeners to humility before God’s law, gratitude for Christ’s finished work, and holy watchfulness in the Christian life.
Westminster Confession of Faith 6.6
“Every sin, both original and actual, being a transgression of the righteous law of God, and contrary thereunto, doth, in its own nature, bring guilt upon the sinner, whereby he is bound over to the wrath of God, and curse of the law, and so made subject to death, with all miseries spiritual, temporal, and eternal.”
