In the upcoming race for Pennsylvania Senate District 25, which is currently held by the soon retiring Sen. Joe Scarnati, the first candidate to announce he was running was also the first candidate to submit the required number of signatures to the state department.

Dr. Jim Brown from Brockway turned in 777 signatures in Harrisburg. He had announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for District 25, even before Scarnati decided he would be retiring.

Also running for the Republican ticket in the race are Rep. Cris Dush and DuBois City Manager Herm Suplizio. They're expected to also collect enough signatures to be on the Republican ballot for the April 28 primary. Margie Brown is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

This Friday through Sunday, thousands of people will pack into the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, and volunteer dancers will stay on their feet for 46 consecutive hours to raise money for the Four Diamonds Fund in the the fight against childhood cancer.

However, a lot of that money was raised before the dancing even starts! Penn State DuBois raised a record amount this year... more than $32,000! $8,825 of that came from a hair auction the campus held recently, including $3,000 donations from people supporting 10-year-old Emma Roy, a 5th grader who wanted to cut her hair to raise money for kids.
