You might have been excited to earn airline miles or points when you signed up for your credit card, but when was the last time you used them or even checked to see how many points you had racked up?
Bankrate's Ted Rossman says these points are worth real month. However, about half of people who participate in airline and hotel rewards programs let them expire.
Rossman says, "The average person who has airline miles has about $350. For hotel points, about $230, and credit card points, about $160 apiece."
If you use them, the expiration date generally gets reset. If you don't use them, you'll end up losing out.
