Johnson Motors in DuBois has long been a supporter of the Bob Perks Fund, which provides financial assistance to local cancer patients who are struggling to pay for their basic expenses.

Over the past two years, Johnson Motors has donated nearly $20,000 to pay the rent, heat and utility bills of community members who are battling cancer. Just yesterday, they donated another $13,000 to the project.

State officials gathered with police to honor our law enforcement officers and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

This 25th annual observance was held at the Forum auditorium in downtown Harrisburg.

Brockway Area School District is getting a new superintendent. The school board approved Jeff Vizza, the current co-principal at the junior-senior high school, to take over for the recently retired Dan Hawkins. Vizza had previously work at the DuBois Area School District before that.

Vizza’s hiring was approved unanimously, although the board commented on how difficult it was to choose between two very qualified candidates.

Brockway school board president Cathleen Bish says she looks forward to the district’s next adventure.

Dan Hawkins announced in March that he would retire at the end of the school year. He had been in education for the past 37 years.

Two DuBois City police cars were crashed into early Monday morning.

Chief Blaine Clark says officers had been handling a separate domestic case on West Scribner Avenue just after midnight early Monday morning, May 7.

The officers checked to make sure the driver was okay and called in backup from Sandy Township.

Officers worked together to handle both situations. No one was injured.

One patrol car was severely damaged, and the other has moderate damage.

Remember, you can make a difference for local hungry families just by participating in this weekend’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive!

It’s a national drive held each year by the Letter Carriers Association of the United States.

All you have to do is put out any non-perishable food items that you’d like to donate in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 12.

Because there is rain in the forecast, you’re asked to put the food into plastic bags. Please double bag them, especially if they are heavy.

Letter carriers and volunteers will collect the food today during your normal mail pickup time.

Brad Waddell, the drive coordinator for the DuBois area (and also our local letter carrier who delivers to our radio station), says even small donations add up, as long as enough people participate.

Come to the Reitz Theater for their spring play, Harvey, the story of an imaginary 6 ½-foot tall rabbit and the people who think they’re crazy because they see him.

The last chance the see the show is going to be tonight and tomorrow (May 4 and 5) at 7:30 p.m. at the Reitz Theater in DuBois.

The second game is at 7 p.m. in City Park at the Challenger Field featuring High School Girls Softball teams DuBois Area High School vs. DuBois Central Catholic.
