Every person I speak to has his or her own unique story of when and how this pandemic hit them, and each is so distinctly beautiful and different. So in this Connection thru Chaos series, I want to give people the chance to share their firsthand accounts. In this episode, we’ll hear from my friend, veterinary technician Ms. Monica Nainy Hijar.
When asked about adjustments she’s had to make since the outbreak of the Covid-19 became a full-blown pandemic, Monica discussed tweaks to the schedule of the animal hospital where she works. People had started to cancel their appointments, and in response, the management began exploring options like closing early, starting later in the day, or shutting down the entire establishment completely.
According to Monica, you can feel the tension at her work. They went from having client appointments every half hour to putting up signs in their parking lot and front door that says, “Do not come in.” Nowadays, workers step outside in protective gear to attend to clients’ pets.
During hard times like this, Monica is grateful for the clients who have remained supportive despite the changes and who appreciate the care Monica and her coworkers provide their beloved pets.
The most impressive part of this interview was learning that Monica uses work as a de-stressor. According to Monica, while she’s at work, the feeling of being in a panic situation shuts off. That is how much she loves her job and how dedicated she is to still strengthening her connections with others at this time.
