Over the past, and still, to this day, there have been countless shootings of Black men and women from the police. A lot of this behavior is judging the person before the situation begins.

In this episode, CBC talks to 5 different people about their experiences with system racism by police and law enforcement agencies.

CBC discusses the case that brought national attention to this issue, the death of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was killed by George Zimmerman who was not convicted of any crime.

They discuss the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., where there were riots across the city in protest of the police violence.

These protests are where the Black Lives Matter movement originated.

On April 20, 2021 Derek Chauvin was convinced of all 3 charges to the George Floyd murder. This is a lifelong turning point in history. When I heard this I was happy and sad at the same time. The reason is that so many others in the past did not get this opportunity to get justice for their life and their families' lives.

If we never discuss these issues we will never find a solution to the problem.

Voter suppression Laws is not a new problem. It has been a part of the United States from the beginning of the 20th century. The set of laws that we all know is the Jim Crow Laws. These laws were put in place to stop Afican Americans from having the right to vote. Some examples of the Jim Crow Laws are literacy tests and jelly bean count. The literacy tests consisted of a few questions to test your knowledge at an education level. The jelly bean count was a guessing game that was used to not let Afican Americans have the right to vote. If you failed the literacy test or the jelly bean count you were not giving the right to register to vote. These laws that were in place during the Jill Crow era turned hundreds of Afican Americans away from having the right to vote.

Peaches was a loving, respectful person who was always there when you needed her. Che and Michael are continuing this show in memory of Peaches and will continue on as if she were here with us. 

Today, we’ll be interviewing Kourtney Williams, proud owner of Jako Boutique since 2016. At her boutique, you’ll find clothing, accessories, and shoes for both women and men. We’ll learn more about her boutique, how and why she started her business, and more, in today’s episode.
