Disclaimer: This episode will deal with racism and police violence with African Americans. It will have Inappropriate language for some people and may make certain people uncomfortable.
Over the past, and still, to this day, there have been countless shootings of Black men and women from the police. A lot of this behavior is judging the person before the situation begins.
In this episode, CBC talks to 5 different people about their experiences with system racism by police and law enforcement agencies.
CBC discusses the case that brought national attention to this issue, the death of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was killed by George Zimmerman who was not convicted of any crime.
They discuss the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., where there were riots across the city in protest of the police violence.
These protests are where the Black Lives Matter movement originated.
Here are a few of the victims' lives lost by police killings:
ERIC GARNER, DANTE PARKER, TANISHA ANDERSON, TAMIR RICE, FREDDIE GRAY, BREONNA TAYLOR and AHMAUD AUBREY.
On April 20, 2021 Derek Chauvin was convinced of all 3 charges to the George Floyd murder. This is a lifelong turning point in history. When I heard this I was happy and sad at the same time. The reason is that so many others in the past did not get this opportunity to get justice for their life and their families' lives.
If we never discuss these issues we will never find a solution to the problem.
