Commemorating the War of Independence might seem like it should be straight forward however in Ireland over the last decade it has become mired in controversy. Last Sunday I was joined by Dr Brian Hanley for the monthly supporters Q&A. We discussed these controversies around historical commemoration in Ireland. During our discussion we talked about how these events were marked in the past, what has changed and if they are going to be increasingly controversial into the future.
Live show in a medieval church!
On November 6th I am organising my first live show in two years. The venue alone is worth coming for - the show is on in the 800 year old St Mary's church in Kilkenny.
The show will be themed around the War of Independence.
In the first half I will be joined by Dr Regina Donlon to talk about migration during the war and then in the second half the Actor Aidan Crowe will join me on stage.
In front of a live audience (hopefully including you) myself and will Aidan turn the clock back 100 years, transporting you to Ireland during the revolutionary period. While I will provide the history, Aidan will narrate the words of people who lived through the War of Independence.
Its going to be a great experience hopefully you can join me on the night.
