This week, Maggie and Lucero are back, solas, to discuss another strategy to use in the classroom: Graphic Organizers!. We have now shared our thoughts on differentiation, as well as how to differentiate using visuals. This week, we touch on another way: the use of graphic organizers. If you’re like Lucero, you’re probably still a bit intimidated by this strategy, but have no fear! We break it down to simple terms in this quick, 10 minute episode! This week we are Maggie and Lucero are back, solas, to discuss a very important topic in the classroom: differentiation. As we have transitioned back to the classroom post-pandemic, many students have struggled to engage in learning. Along with this, teachers have found it more difficult to ensure that all students' needs are being met. Differentiation is one way to allow all students to engage with content that is comprehensible according to their learning needs. We give some examples of why this is important and how we can incorporate it into our classrooms, especially for our language learners!

This week we are back with a guest who has been with us previously, Ms. Alejandra Gutierres! Alejandra was born and raised in Little Village. She is the eldest of 5 kids and is a queer first generation college student. She has been a school social worker in both Chicago and Los Angeles and is currently a Network Social emotional learning specialist in the communities she calls home. In this episode, she discusses how she provides students, teachers, and administration strategies to help build a more restorative justice system in schools.

Laura is a dual language teacher in California who is a strong believer in the importance of translanguaging.She became an educator in order to empower students who looked like her. I have a BA in Liberal Studies, Multiple subjects credential with bilingual authorization, and a Masters degree in TESOL.

This week we are back with Ms. Marisol Santana, also known as @salsamari on Tik Tok! Marisol is currently a dual language teacher who shares many resources geared toward dual language teachers on Tik Tok. However, the road to education was not a straight shot. She was born and raised in New York with a mom from Puerto Rico and a father who is a Jew from NY of Ashkenazi descent. She learned Spanish from her mother, who ensured that she learned the language through child care and other family members. She also got her Spanish name from her mom, which has allowed her to learn how hard it was to maintain that in a world of English speakers. In 2019, Marisol was diagnosed with Breast cancer and is now cancer free! Yet she wants to remind everyone to get their cancer screenings as it saves lives!

This week we’re back with another amazing educator, Ms. Rita! Rita is an elementary teacher teaching fourth grade. She has taught many grades from Pre-K to fourth, and she expresses how each one of them is special in their own way. In this episode, Rita talks about her experiences growing up and how her life path led her to education. She came to the United States when she was a bit older, and faced some challenges in the school system, as well as culture shock, upon arrival. Despite this, she decided to dive into bilingual education to help students who may face challenges as she did while she was growing up.

S4:E6 - Fighting inequities y destruyendo school to prison pipelines

We are back with a new interview episode, where our mic is YOURS!  Welcome, 

Join us in celebrating Reyna Guerra-Vega, an amazing Latinx, brown, queer teacher in Arizona. Reyna (Rey) teaches special education math to high school students. In special education, there can be many inequities present, and she actively advocates to ensure that her students are receiving the best education that meets their needs. She understands that all students have strengths and funds of knowledge that they bring to the table, and meets students where they are at. She also advocates for her students beyond her classroom, no matter where life may take them. She has recently had encounters with the prison mail system, in which more inequities are present. Despite this, Rey continues to fight for her students.

We are excited to bring you Season 4 with amazing conversations, tips and insights on how to handle both old and new topics arising in education.
