Mary Hutchinson Interview
In “Turn to God with Carin,” Carin Jayne Casey introduced Mary Hutchinson, who has a tremendous story to share about a tragic attack by a family member while she was a child, and how God rescued her from it. It’s about turning to God and Overcoming. Mary’s Uncle was always willing to take care of her and her siblings, but he had evil intent, molesting her while she was nine to twelve years old.
One day Mary’s Uncle took her out into the country and tried to rape her, then he tried to kill her through strangulation, by poisoning her, and finally by hitting her in the head with a hatchet. But God’s hand intervened. Overwhelmed with guilt, he took her to the police station, but made her swear not to tell the extent of the attacks. He was charged with assault, two years, suspended.
Mary remained sad with low self-esteem for several years. Once her brother died of Asperger’s, she realized there must be a heaven, because her brother had to go there. A close friend of hers lead her to Christ. She was pulled out of the extreme darkness and into the world. She read the Bible ravenously. She testified on The 700 Club, and many people were affected. Mary prayed for a husband, and her prayers were answered.
Although she thought she forgave her Uncle, Mary didn’t want to see him in heaven, and couldn’t pray for him. In the 1990’s she attempted to have him arrested, but the statutory time had run. In 2002, Mary began to pray for her Uncle. In 2009, he called her, weeping. He wanted forgiveness. She led him to Christ and they prayed together. Six weeks later, he died.
Casey shared steps for one to be saved: 1) believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, was crucified for our sins, and arose. John 3:16; 2) confess with your mouth that you’re a sinner in need to repent; that you believe Jesus is the Son of God, died for your sins, and arose; and ask forgiveness. Casey prayed The Sinner’s Prayer.
