  • Alexis Spight: From Homeless to Sunday's Best!
Alexis Spight, with her fiery red hair, set the stage on fire during Season Five of BET's Sunday Best. The 19-year-old singer/songwriter made it to the finale, topping more than 15,000 hopefuls. She recently released her first album, L.O.L.: Living Out Loud, which reached #1 on the Billboard Gospel charts!
Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Alexis is the oldest of five children. Both music and God were at the center of her family life. She began singing in the choir at her church at three years old. When she was 12, Alexis discovered a love and talent for writing music. She began writing as a way to deal with a difficult period in her life. Her family lost their home, and the seven of them had to move into an extended stay hotel, where they lived for three months. "I suddenly knew what it was like to lose everything, but God blessed us through it all," she says. "It prompted my family to have an unspoken bond, and I believe it was preparation for this journey."
Alexis wants to make sure that the message in her music ministry remains clear: "You can be as different and unique as God made you and still love-and be loved by-God, so you can be bold and confident in your uniqueness."   You've seen the glory; now hear the story. Call into 646-478-5610 to connect with Alexis LIVE!

Have you ever felt a pain that cut so deep you didn't think you'd ever stop "bleeding"? We've all experienced loss. Whether the end of a relationship, the death of a loved one or any transition in life, what we perceive as an ending is also a new beginning. On today's show we join our guest experts as they teach us to let go of the pain and embrace the potential.

You know Alicia Coppola from CBS’s Jericho, the only television show in a decade to be renewed after cancellation due to popular fan response. She also played the award-winning role of Lorna Devon on NBC’s Another World and currently stars in MTV’s Teen Wolf. While she's played many notable roles, one of her most important was chronicling her father's journals in her new book. Gracefully Gone is a decade-long dialogue between Alicia and her father as he lay dying from brain cancer. Through writing her book and acting roles where loss was a prominent theme, Alicia says she was given a gift:  She was able to relearn how powerful and hopeful we as people actually are and what the human spirit can and must endure after severe loss.   Dianne Gray is a nationally recognized speaker and award winning writer/journalist. Dianne is President of both the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Foundation and Hospice and Healthcare Communications. She is currently producing a documentary on end of life care for PBS. Wherever she goes, Dianne sits bedside with the ill and the dying. She sees her family's end of life experience with her son, Austin, (who died in February 2005) as the gift of a lifetime.

  • Dark Girls--Shedding Light on the Issue
Spike Lee highlighted the issue in his iconic movie "School Daze" with the battle between the jigaboos and the wannabees. More than two decades later it's still at the forefront of conversation with films such as "Dark Girls," which recently premiered on OWN, stirring up controversy. Where does this stratification in communities of color come from? Does skin color really create different circumstances in society? Does this carry over into the dating world? Today on the show we are joined by three dynamic guests to shed light on the issue:   Felicia Gardner is a sought-after advertising executive and stylist. Her innovative company, FG LifeStyling, has taken fashion styling to a whole new level by re-fashioning all aspects of a person’s life. Through a broad range of services including image consulting, interior design, party planning, and lifestyle design, she has been cited by clients to create “fab-gasms”--a reaction to fabulous style! Felicia has appeared on the television show House of Consignment on VH1 and can be found styling clients worldwide.   "Miss More Roses" is the founder of the dynamic women's empowerment group, Black Women Who Want More. the group boasts nearly 90,000 Facebook fans and has chapters in cities nationwide.    Dennis "StirThePot" Glenn has been doing just that via his Facebook page under the same name. He poses questions and tackles issues that incite heated debate. Dennis is a retired firefighter and paramedic, and also a sports bar owner. He may be reitred, but he keeps busy stirring up controversy!   Call 646-478-5610 to join the conversation!
