Sabrina is the creator and founder of S.M.O.O.O.T.H., Inc. [Speaking Mentally, Outwardly Opening Opportunities Toward Healing], a non-profit Domestic Violence Campaign fueled by a mother (Sabrina) who was a victim of domestic abuse, was founded in 2013.

Sabrina shares her story of domestic violence and how it left her burned and blind. She talks more about her non-profit, the S.M.O.O.O.T.H. Santa Toy Drive, how to leave the abuser, and the movie that's in the works about her life.

This episode is my from my community affairs show, Access Houston, with trauma psychiatrist, Dr. Alauna Curry. Dr. Alauna's The Trauma C.U.R.E. is on Saturday, October 26th. Today we talk about psychological trauma and what we can do about it, how empathy is the cure for trauma, and she breaks down how biology, neurology, and spirituality are all connected to how we deal with trauma. This is such an insightful conversation that must be heard!

My next conversation I'm talking mental health with music industry veteran, Shanti Das. Shanti tells her story of dealing with mental health and talks about her non-profit Silence the Shame. Silence the Shame is a non-profit awareness, education and advocacy organization. Through community conversations, compelling content and other programs, our goals are to normalize the conversation, peel back the layers of shame to eliminate stigma and provide support for mental health/poverty.

Comedian Deon Cole's new Netflix stand-up special, Cole World, just dropped this week. Here's an interview I did with him from the summer of 2018 when he at the Improv.

Next I re-spin my conversation with executive chef and owner of Poitin, Chef Dominick Lee. He, along with four other local chefs in Houston, are looking to change the narrative by raising money and awareness for the affected communities using the power of food. The foursome realized they shared a collective passion for sowing back into debilitated communities, specifically those that historically lacked access to fresh ingredients. Thus, the Food Apartheid Dinner Series (F.A.D.S.) was born.

This episode I re-spin my conversation with Danielle Fanfair, executive director for The Hines Center. Danielle educates us on mental health and the black community, the value of mindfulness and meditation, and the services offered by The Hines Center.
