1. In this text, the Pharisees and the Herodians are seeking to cause trouble by pitting the government against religion. What are some current example of this? How does this usually end up?

2. Read Romans 13:1-2. What does this text teach us about our responsibility as Christians to the government? How can this text give us peace in the midst of political turmoil?

3. Why do you think both the Herodians and the Pharisees both wanted to put an end to Jesus?

4. What does it practically look like to render to God the things are that God’s?

1. The tenants in this story aren’t interested in God, but they want his vineyard. When or how are you tempted to neglect God or desire his stuff more than him?

2. How does this story reveal God’s patience? How does God’s patience affect the way you understand His judgment?

3. In the story, the land owner sends his own son. This is very similar to what John 3:16 teaches. What does the sending of the son teach us about the heart of the land owner/father?

4. At the end of the story, the Chief Priests, Scribes, and the Elders are conspiring to kill Jesus. Why do you think that God’s patience and anger could cause such hatred? What does this teach us about our hearts and what we desire?

1. We are entering a section in Mark’s gospel in which Jesus is going to be asked many questions. What is the purpose of the question presented to Jesus in this text? What can this teach us about questions, purpose, and our hearts?

2. Take a moment to look over the previous chapters of Mark. What are some of the miracles that Jesus performed? What do they reveal about his identity and authority?

3. Why do you think Jesus is unwilling to answer the question from the Scribes? What does this teach us about discipleship?

4. The Scribes used a question to keep themselves from having to deal with the truth. When have you used questions this way? What was the outcome?

1. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a borrowed colt. What does teach us about the kind of King Jesus is?

2. How does Mark describe the condition of the Temple? Why would this frustrate Jesus?

3. Take a moment to list the ways in which Jesus replaces the temple for God’s people. How does Jesus fulfill what the temple foreshadowed?

4. Read Mark 11:20-25. What is it that Jesus wants for us?

2. In what different ways do you see the analogy of physical blindness and spiritual blindness in Mark 10?

3. What does Jesus stopping and listening to Bartimaeus’ cry tell you about who Jesus is?

4. In what areas have you acted blindly to the Gospel? What truths of the Gospel do you need to believe?

1. John 3:16 is a summary of the things Nicodemus ought to have known. What does this teach us about the way Nicodemus thought about God?

2. John 3:16 is often seen as a simple verse, and yet it is full of complex and beautiful truth. Take a moment to list all of the things it teaches us about God and man.

3. How would you sum up what is God is like in 2-3 sentences? Write it out.

4. So often, we focus on trying to impress God, we forget the incredible truth that God loves us. Take a few moments to enjoy God and praise him for the gift of His Son, Jesus.

4. John said that he was writing that “our joy may be complete”. How do you think writing helped to complete John’s joy? What does teach us about the nature of joy?

1. In this text, Luke introduces us to both Caesar and Jesus. Based only this text, what are some of the differences between Caesar and Jesus?

2. Roman citizens looked to Caesar to bring them peace. Who or what are do you have a propensity to look to for peace?

3. It is no mistake the God announced the birth of Jesus to shepherds. Why do you think God chose shepherds to be the first to hear of the good news?

4. Make a list of all the things the angel of the Lord announces to the shepherds. Define or describe each of these things, paying special attention to how they effect you personally.

2. What is the foundation of our future hope? How does this foundation guard us from hopelessness?

3. How does Biblical hope based on God’s redemptive work in the past empower you to live a self-controlled Godly life in the present?

4. In what ways are you tempted to create your own “heaven on earth”? How can you remind yourself of the future hope that is yours in Christ?

2. In what ways does greatness from the world's view differ than greatness described by Jesus in this text?
