1. Describe a time when you wanting recognition before others. Why do you think people desire honor and recognition?

2. In what ways does greatness from the world's view differ than greatness described by Jesus in this text?

3. In what ways does the death of Jesus Christ empower you to serve others and be a blessing?

4. What practical ways can you serve and bless others this week? How can encourage you and keep you accountable?

1. This text is full of unexpected responses. Take a moment to identify some of them. Which response is most unexpected to you? Why?

2. How would you characterize the Young Rulers approach to Jesus and eternal life? In what ways can you identify with him?

3. How would you characterize the ways the kids were approaching Jesus? In what ways can you learn from them?

4. How can you find encouragement in the promise Jesus gives to his disciples regarding homes and families? How might this apply to you?

1. When Jesus was questioned about marriage and divorce, he referred to Genesis creation. What does this teach us about the origin and purpose of marriage?

2. How does having a shared Biblical understanding of marriage help to protect and encourage us?

3. What part of the text seems most controversial to you personally? Why?

4. Read through Ephesians 5:21-33. How does Biblical marriage display the beauty gospel?

Discipleship Question:

1. Ephesians 1 provides us with a list of our spiritual blessings in Christ. Why do you think Paul mentioned spiritual blessings instead of physical blessings?

2. Take a moment to meditate on the blessings that are ours in Christ (election, adoption, redemption, forgiveness, eternal inheritance, sealing by the Spirit).

3. How does these blessings change us in the here and now? (Hint: Ephesians 5)

4. Each of us are prone to look to other “saviors" and other “Lords” to provide us with joy and comfort. Take a moment to pray and confess the ways that you tempted to “practically” reject or ignore the doctrine of Christ Alone.
