  • 051 Biology of Stress Dr Mary Wingo
    Stressful environments create biological consequences
Ecuadorians as a whole have great “solidarity” as a culture. The have had a dizzying amount of presidents, constitutions, and banking holidays during the last 200 years, and so the “system” fails periodically. Interestingly, the culture moves in to fill the gaps automatically. Living in this very different society opened my eyes to the unsustainable social, economic, and political costs preventable stress causes in our modern world.
    ~ Mary Wingo
    Dr. Mary Wingo
Born in the United States, she earned a Ph.D. in human stress research from The University of North Texas. In 2014, She emigrated to Ecuador, a tiny country in South America. Living in a new and very different society opened her eyes to the unsustainable social, economic, and political costs preventable stress causes in our modern world.
Dr. Wingo’s aim is to clearly explain to the public the biological mechanisms behind the stress response, as well as its enormous costs to society. She also presents practical science-based stress-management solutions that any person in any community can employ.
The result is her book: The Impact of the Human Stress Response: The biological origins, causes, and solutions to human stress– a unique fusion of science, economics, and sociology culminating from 20 years of research and social insight.

ADHD Kids: Challenges With The Law
While the CDC estimates that ADHD occurs in 10% of the general population, its prevalence in our jails has been estimated at 50% or higher.  Additionally, in about 65% of cases, ADHD is present with a co-occurring mental health condition.  Studies also show that inmates with related mental health conditions stay in the system between 5 and 8 times longer than inmates without mental health impairments. This is further compounded by the fact that the risk of substance abuse disorder doubles when ADHD is present and further triples when ADHD is present with Conduct Disorder.
    ~ Robert Tudisco
Robert Tudisco – A Lawyer Experienced With ADHD Kids
Here Robert takes on many imperatives that surround ADHD children with legal issues  – and gives us hard, straight answers. Consider this essential perspective: children and adolescents with ADHD & co-occurring conditions experience a much higher risk of school discipline & criminal prosecution.
Robert is a nationally recognized author, motivational speaker and non-profit management consultant, in addition to being a practicing attorney at the law firm of Barger & Gaines, in Irvington NY.
My firm recommendation for those interested in ADHD kids and the law: A mandatory listen to Robert Tudisco.

    * Since his diagnosis, he has researched and written extensively on the subject of special education law and disability advocacy, as well as the over-representation of individuals with ADHD and co-occurring mental health conditions in the juvenile/criminal justice systems compared to that in the general population.
    * He is a frequent resource for the media on these subjects including CBS News, New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, ABC News, The BBC, NBC’s Today Show, CNN, USA Today, Seattle Times. • 049 Prescription Drug Problems Dr Ruhling
Prescription drugs often do treat the symptoms, but may miss the causes
Even in the face of failure, we should work to understand the most relevant cause – and take comfort knowing right makes might. We may not see the victory – and yet we must remember that truth and right will win – though it may take a different future form than we first imagine.
    ~ Richard Ruhling
Prescription Drugs & Dr. Richard Ruhling – Who
Dr. Ruhling is a retired physician who was board certified in Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of Health Science at Loma Linda University where he was responsible for Executive Health from 1974-78. His message is essential: drugs might help in some ways, but miss underlying biomedical complexity.
Be forewarned: for Dr. Ruhling prescription drug issues are just a starter for his multiple concerns. His edgy comments address a variety of relevant frustrations from his years of medical experience – some of which do play out in everyday medical practice.
His more comprehensive awareness started when he attended cardiology meetings and heard Pritikin speak on reversing cardiovascular disease with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet which was a turning point to see that Hippocrates was right– “Let your food be your medicine.” He later authored Why You Shouldn’t Ask Your Doctor.
    Why Now
While teaching in the mid-70’s, I saw Pritikin reversing heart disease, high blood pressure and Type II diabetes with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and exercise. Patients did better than those who took prescription drugs! Data-based medical understandings are changing every day.

  • 048 Chronic Pain Recovery Daniel Twogood
Chronic pain creates challenges that can kill you fast or slow
We must simply cut to the bone on measurable details. It’s essentail to discuss the specifics on exactly what causes chronic pain, and how to get rid of it.
    ~ Daniel Twogood
Dr. Daniel Twogood – Why Chronic Pain?
Half of our CoreBrain Journal audience suffers from some form of chronic pain: fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, migraines, arthritis, IBS, and more. Most brain malfunctions are a result of the ingestion of specific neurotoxins and neuro-allergens. Conventional medicine has no answers beyond drugs. They don’t know what causes chronic pain or any neuro-funk.
Here Dr. Twogood explains these challenges in simple terms.
    Dr. Twogood – Who
He began practicing in 1983 at the International Sports Medicine Institute in West Los Angeles where he treated athletes in the 1984 Olympics. He discovered the diet/pain connection for himself in 1985 and wrote his first book, No Milk in 1992. Dr. Twogood has written two books since then, How to Rid Your Body of Pain in 1996, and MSG is Everywhere in 1997. In the last ten years, he has discovered more about chronic pain, what causes it, and how to eliminate chronic pain in a reasonable time frame. In a nutshell, chronic pain is due to inflammation that arises from specific substances in food, food additives, supplements, and medication. The solution is to eliminate these substances, and not add any additional inflammatory variables. This Episode starts you on a journey of deeper understanding regarding those variables.
    Why Now & Prince
Chronic pain insights provide timely, new awareness because we now have an epidemic of addiction and death caused by opioids—the only solution conventional medicine has offered. Prince’s untimely death is an example of chronic pain treatment with opioids gone astray.

  • 047 Food Addiction Glenn Livingston
Food addiction and binge eating from a different perspective
After decades of struggle, study, and a self-funded research survey with more than 40,000 people, I discovered a surprisingly unusual way to stop overeating. I used to feel I couldn’t stop thinking about food, even when working with patients. I was almost 70 pounds overweight and was fully capable of dislodging my jaw to empty the delicatessen into it!
    ~ Glenn Livingston
    Dr. Glenn Livingston – Who
Glenn started this food addiction journey when he hit a weight bearing wall:
Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and longtime CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm which has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company’s)  previous work, theories, and research in the main periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Indiana Star-Ledger, The NY Daily News, and American Demographics.  You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and CBS radio, or UPN TV.
    I was very successful, but…
Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and individuals suffering from food addiction, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of binging and overeating via work with his patients and a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants.
Most significant, however, was his personal journey out of obesity and food prison to an average, healthy weight and a much-improved relationship with food.
I overcame my obsession with food and was able to free my mind to concentrate on more constructive things.

Your brain has a natural ability to physically change itself by creating new pathways and connections in response to your experiences, this is called neuroplasticity. Plasticity can be positively stimulated by engaging in the right activities, often enough, over a sufficient period of time, resulting in positive life changes. That is the purpose of our research and our products, to create measurable improvements. Music heals through real changes in the brain.

A hard look at what to do when close friendships end
Until now, there’s been very little out there to help with friend break ups.  Lots of love-sex counseling, and family counseling, but if you get dumped by a friend you’re on your own. The funniest thing about this ending is that when I let go of needing a friend to prove to myself I was lovable, potential friends came popping out of the woodwork.

Brain and body imbalances connect in surprising ways
Folowing 9-11 I suffered crippling PTSD. I had nausea, was vomiting, and the dizzy spells constantly knocked me off my feet. Nothing worked. My first visit with an informed doctor, he used only THREE needles because I couldn’t lie down for a complete treatment. Twenty-five minutes later, 90 percent of my symptoms were gone.
    ~ Denise Thunderhawk
    Denise: Who
    Brief Bio:
“It took an enormous toll on me, and as a result of that 9-11 tragedy, I have PTSD.
I couldn’t leave my house for over a year; I didn’t sleep, except when I pulled into rest stops between my investigation cases. During that time, I used herb medicines to keep me on an even keel but I still wasn’t sleeping, and the palpitations were 24/7.
When I did sleep, the nightmares returned to haunt me. I also endured other physical pains as a result of the trauma. At one point, after several days of not sleeping, I thought I had a heart attack, the palpitations were so severe. I knew then I had to find someone to help me, someone who was more qualified. I knew for some reason that I needed to see a Chinese medicine doctor.
I found an excellent doctor nearby who helped me begin to heal my emotional wounds and physical pains.”
    Denise: What
    Acupuncture
“After my mother passed, I built up the courage to go to medical school to study Oriental medicine, since it had helped me so much. 9/11 changed me in many ways – both good and bad – but it set me on a journey to the internal, spiritual world and taught me about healing old wounds, letting go. It taught me to see the world (and everything in it) in a whole new light. For that, I am grateful – which was one of the many lessons I learned along that bumpy road.”

Biomedical Markers Reviewed For Bipolar and Schizophrenia
    – The CoreBrain Journal Walsh Molecular Series: 3 of 4 –
Abnormalities in methylation and folate chemistry are common in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and certain behavioral disorders.[1]
The most common phenotype of schizophrenia involves elevated dopamine activity, and most current antipsychotic medications are aimed at lowering activity of this neurotransmitter. Unfortunately, this is the wrong approach for schizophrenics with different brain chemistry. Most efficacy experiments for depression and schizophrenia continue to involve a mixture of disorders with different brain chemistry imbalances. This blurs the data and weakens the scientific findings. Some psychiatry experts have recently urged researchers to develop objective tests for separating these illnesses into meaningful phenotypes.[1]

    * The End of Autism – CBJ/141 – Active
    Overview
Biomedical markers, specific molecular measures, change the rules of the diagnostic and treatment game. Why? Improved target recognition for contributory molecular mind variables offers increased precision and more predictable outcomes.  It’s an honor for me, and for our serious team at CoreBrain Journal, to welcome Dr. Walsh for this third in a special series of three one-hour CBJ indispensable interviews.
If you’re a regular at CBJ, you will, with this CBJ/042 Episode, now understand the reason for the sequence of this Walsh three-part series. Each perspective builds on the other, and in this interview, Dr. Walsh effectively ties together connections between CBJ/025 and CBJ/034.
Why one hour for these interviews? – Because Bill’s imperative message introduces fresh workable possibilities:
    * Fresh, Relevant Data in a rapidly rising sea of excellent biomedical insights improves mind measurement and treatment initiatives for many who suffer from treatment failure.
    * Cost Effective Measures now reveal patterns of previously under-appreciated brain functions that look on the surface as untreatable – e.g. personality disorders, autism, mood disorders, schizophrenia, cognitive deterioration, ADHD. – More biomedically precise than SPECT imaging.
    * Understandable insights that lead to specific biomedical resolution strategies. Read his book. His molecular view arrives in different language packaging, and yet translates into informed, effective clinical care for many.
