ADHD Recovery – Plans and Persistence Matter
I honestly never dreamed that I would ever be standing where I currently stand. I was told by teachers/professors that I was not college material and that my ADHD was so severe that I might just want to consider getting a trade so that I would have some type of job. I’m currently in my Doctoral program conducting research that has won awards for helping educators teach people, like myself with ADHD, specific principles for advanced self management.
    ~ Mellissa Hood
    About Missy Hood
“After losing 40 jobs in 15 years, Missy Hood had suffered and struggled to overcome her ADHD. Missy triumphed over her condition and had gone on to achieve great things, and she wants to inspire others to do the same. Upon completing her research study at Texas State University, she decided sharing her life story in an autobiography would assist others dealing with the same disorder. Today Missy is enrolled in Concordia University’s Ed. D Program as she pursues her passion for teaching others in the field of Transformational Leadership. Today, Missy lives in Round Rock, TX, and she continues to counsel and raise up those deemed ‘less likely to succeed.’
    Missy’s Painful Reality
It took me three attempts at college before I finally graduated (after 6yrs). It took me another 12 yrs to attain the confidence even to consider going after my Masters and I wouldn’t have ever considered a Ph.D. except for the fact that I was invited to the program by my professors because of my award-winning research. I moved into destiny after the death of my father (I was 22yrs) and was forced to find a way to take care of myself because learning was so hard for me. My life evolved over a 20-year time span with God taking me into the film industry (as a theatric costuming designer to the stars) and then back to college for my Masters. But I never (in a million years) ever thought I’d be standing in a Ph.D. program that was developing research to help students like myself. I never thought I was smart enough. It turns out the joke was on me for ever believing that lie.
Missy’s Success Reveals What You Can Do
As an ADHD person, I have a highly unique ability to see the fastest way to get from pt. A to pt. B in the least amount of time, the least amount of monies and the least amount of effort. This part of my gift won me Employee of the Quarter 5 times in 3 years, with nine pay raises in 8 years. It also helped to save my employer over 10,000.00 in that eight years that I held that job. So ADHD is high beneficial if employers will just allow us to be ourselves. The 2nd time was when I won an award in my Master’s Program for my research on Students with Disabilities and their Coping Skills. This award transformed the Office of Disabilities at Texas State as well as set a brand new paradigm in the way they approached students with ADHD. I was then invited to speak at an international conference for Students with Disabilities in Denver CO in 2012 because of that same research.”

  • 040 Geriatric Depression Dr Gary Moak
On Course: Depression Is Not A Consequence Of Age
The onset of depression late in life is often assumed by individuals and families to be a natural consequence of the aging process. This is a misunderstanding with potentially tragic consequences, as depression – correctly diagnosed – is one of the most treatable mental illnesses.
    ~ Gary Moak
    Depression Denial Advances With Age
On Many Levels, From Professionals To Family
Geriatric Depression Inquiries – Personal Perspectives
Dr. Moak is a geriatric psychiatrist and author of Beat Depression to Stay Healthier and Live Longer: A Guide For Older Adults And Their Families. He served as past president of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry and was, in 2011, the recipient of its clinician-of-the-year award. He is a practicing geriatric psychiatrist with over thirty years experience treating older adults with a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral problems related to diseases of aging.
Dr. Moak is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Geisel Medical School at Dartmouth, where he serves as Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at the New Hampshire Hospital. Dr. Moak drives home essential points that every single one of us should consider as we age, and as we serve those who age with us. Depression denial often speeds deterioration. Let’s collectively listen up the details on how to identify and correct those challenging consequences of age.
His informative book, which combines medical science with Moak’s clinical experience treating thousands of patients and their families, offers insights into depression in the elderly, its relationship to Alzheimer’s and other diseases, and treatment for depression in late life, including both self-help and working with health-care professionals.
The Geriatric Depression and Aging Challenge – Denial
Beat Depression challenges beliefs that depression is normal as one advances in age. Instead, Dr. Moak helps readers see that depression is a  biomedical, measurable and treatable brain disease. Moak addresses the impact of depression on specific geriatric health problems and explains how untreated depression doubles the chances of more severe illnesses such as diabetes.
    Geriatric Depression Tips & Biology
Moak provides practical guidance and advice for patients and family members about working with healthcare professionals to ensure that sufferers receive adequate treatment for their depression and appropriate medical care for their physical needs. By shedding light on the impact of depression on physical health, Moak spotlights the importance of recognizing the signs and symptoms of depression and brings much-needed attention to a subject so often overlooked.
Older adults suffer depression because the aging process causes changes in the brain’s ability to handle stress and regulate emotions. Unfortunately, these symptoms are often confused and combined by patients and families – and many health-care professionals – with Alzheimer’s. “Geriatric mental health specialists are scarce, and the rest of the health-care system doesn’t have a clue about the special needs of older patients with mental-health problems,” Moak says. “This is why the treatment they receive for depression so often falls short.”
Age, too often, is considered hopeless. Without hope, specific directions don’t matter.
In both depression and Alzheimer’s disease, abnormal functioning of the brain causes disturbances of emotions, behavior, memory, and thinking.

Epigenetic Change – Dr. Morrow’s Training
My training is in the field of genetics (Ph.D.), University of Washington, Seattle).  I did post-doctoral study at the Istituto di Geneticà, Universitá di Pavia, Italy, and the Institute for Cancer Research (now the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia PA).
    Defined
Epigenetic change addresses the critical, indeed essential, consequences of environmental change on our mind and body. If we don’t look, we can’t see. Genetics are heritable and remain fixed, while epigenetic change occurs as a consequence of the dynamics of reality experiences over our lifetimes – Stress does create epigenetic change. [Consider the profound neurotransmitter consequences of epigenetic change reviewed by Dr. Walsh during our discussion here at CBJ-025 on Methylation.]
    Dr. Morrow’a Research
I have extensive experience in the academic community, including faculty positions at the University of Kansas and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. I have authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications reporting original research in genetics, immunology, developmental biology, evolution, cancer biology and animal science.
I have been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on over $2.5M of federal and privately funded research grants, and I was the leading investigator on a small business innovative research grant (SBIR) from the National Institutes of Health to Meridian Biosciences, Inc.
    Current Activities
In addition to my academic experience, for the last 15  years, I work directly with Meridian Bioscience, Inc., an immunodiagnostics firm located in Cincinnati. I initially served as first Principal Investigator on a research project supported by the company, and later as Director of Biological Sciences Research at their Cincinnati facility. In addition to my involvement as a research scientist at Meridian, I have consulted for numerous private companies on matters of epigenetic change and measurement.
Currently, I also serve on the editorial boards of Biopharm International.
This spring (2016) I will be joining Point A Consulting (Louisville KY), as part of a team evaluating an expansion proposal developed by a Southeastern US research institute. I will consult and advise the scientific staff on the details of their project.

Hypnosis: A Treatment Option Beyond Meds
John McGrail, Ph.D., in Los Angeles CA, is a well known clinical hypnotherapist, self-improvement expert and spiritual teacher who has helped thousands of clients and students from all walks of life through his clinical practice with hypnosis and self-improvement/motivational seminars and workshops. Dr. McGrail’s book, The Synthesis Effect, Your Direct Path to Personal Power and Transformation introduces his uniquely effective Hypnosis and Synthesis approach, integrating science and spirit to create personal growth and transformation, and to achieve physical, emotional and spiritual balance in life. Dr. McGrail is regularly featured writing and expertise in many print and online publications, and he is a regular guest expert on radio and television.
    About Dr. McGrail
I was an only child, raised by a single parent during the height of the Cold War, a very insecure and scary time. I entered adulthood extremely Type A; riddled with insecurity, compulsive, incredibly intense, addicted and co-dependent. When my then wife left me to ride out a terrible natural disaster on my own, it forced me to face myself and find my way out of those patterns. I embraced and developed my spirituality, worked through my insecurities and re-discovered my power. All of that led to my doing the work I do today, helping others find their power.
    His Results
I have seen hundreds of clients transform themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually in a matter of weeks, once they learn how powerful they are, and commit to taking responsibility for their lives and their outcomes. I work across the spectrum of human behavior so it could be getting rid of the addiction, losing over 100 pounds, conquering a debilitating fear or phobia, finding a soul-mate, overcoming chronic stress and or anxiety; whatever “it” was for them; it often happens quickly and profoundly.

    Neurotoxins Advise Us To Prepare
    For Economic Change
First of all, I am not an economist. I am trained as a scientist, having completed both a PhD and a post-doctoral program at Duke University, where I specialized in neurotoxicology. I tell you this because my extensive training as a scientist informs and guides how I think. I gather data, I develop hypotheses, and I continually seek to accept or reject my hypotheses based on the evidence at hand. I let the data tell me the story. Neurotoxin awareness connects environmental change with the world economy.

Crash Preparation, Your Future & Pending Economic Turmoil
From Neurotoxins To Real Life, Beyond Canaries – Dr. Martenson’s Personal Transformation
His personal Crash Course will encourage you to listen even more carefully. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again here now: our brains are the canaries in the coal mines. It’s time to stop with mouth-to-mouth resuscitating canaries and chase down the methane. Chris tracks down world methane, and beyond, in this remarkable review of future, data-driven, premonitions.
Chris At The Telescope Of Time
“It is important for you to know that I entered the profession of science with the intention of teaching at the college level. I love teaching, and I especially enjoy the challenge of explaining difficult or complicated subjects to people with limited or no background in those subjects. Over the years I’ve gotten pretty good at it.
Once I figured out that most of the (so-called) better colleges place “effective teacher” pretty much near the bottom of their list of characteristics that factor into tenure review, I switched gears, obtained an MBA from Cornell (in Finance), and spent the next ten years working my way through positions in both corporate finance and strategic consulting. From these experiences, I gather my comfort with numbers and finance.
    So much for the credentials.
The most important thing for you to know is the impact that the information that I’ve now placed on this site had on me. Let’s review this change as notes on Before and After.
Before: I am a 40-year-old professional who has worked his way up to Vice President of a large, international Fortune 300 company and is living in a waterfront, five bathroom house in Mystic, CT, which is mostly paid off. My three young children are either in or about to enter public school, and my portfolio of investments is managed by a broker at a large institution. I do not know any of my neighbors, and many of my local connections are superficial at best.
After: I am a 50-year-old who has willingly terminated his former high-paying, high-status position because it seemed like an unnecessary diversion from the real tasks at hand. My children are now homeschooled, and the big house in Mystic was sold in July of 2003 in preference for a modest homestead in rural western Massachusetts. In 2002, I discovered that my broker was unable to navigate a bear market, and I’ve been managing our investments ever since.  I grow a garden every year; preserve food, know how to brew beer & wine, and raise chickens. I’ve carefully examined each support system (food, energy, security, etc.), and for each of them I’ve figured out either a means of being more self-sufficient or a way to do without. But, most importantly, I now know that the most important descriptor of wealth is not my dollar holdings, but the depth and richness of my community.”
Now Dr. Martenson Makes Far Different Predictions For The UN
My evolution from neurotoxins: It’s a modern and extremely well-regarded distillation of the interconnected forces in the Economy, Energy and the Environment (the “Three Es” as Chris calls them) that are shaping the future… one that will b...

  • 036 Clutter To DeClutter Alison Kero
Clutter Explored: The Meaning & The Cure
Clutter isn’t just physical; it’s emotional and spiritual as well. Stuff has meaning.
    ~ Alisha Kero
Alison Transcends Clutter With These Utilitarian Understandings
Why Alison? Clutter Kills Personal Development
Clutter began early for Alison. She grew up in the context of models from 2 different organizational styles. One parent practiced precision-neatness, while the other lived cluttered-up, like a packrat. Through her teenage and college years Alison lived more like a packrat, but when she became an adult and started living on her own, she searched for ways to easily way to break that clutter mold and become better organized.
When Alison evolved as a decluttering expert in 2004, she always searched for additional ways to make her clients easier through organizational skills. However, it wasn’t until 2015 while recovering from a physical illness that she discovered what the clutter process revealed to her:
Clutter isn’t just physical; it’s emotional and spiritual as well.
By starting with the physical clutter and using the 5 Main Organizational Steps, she discovered ways to start transforming her life in a truly meaningful way – as the physical clutter left her life, the emotional and spiritual clutter were easier to identify and remove as well. Suddenly she felt she was living more comfortable, happier, more authentic life.
In fact, Alison found that her health, happiness, and productivity levels all improved when she stuck to the Main 5. She later discovered that they were particularly helpful during times of stress or when she recognized herself wanting to self-sabotage the positive changes she was making.
She has continued working the process ever since and is now happily sharing her methods with her clients.
    Alison Personal Notes
“I’m still working through the auto-immune illness that created many difficult challenges for me, but I use the decluttering system every day with every decision I make, and it helps. It prevents me from self-sabotage and even better, it helps me recognize the signs of self-sabotage. It encourages me to make better self-love based decisions, and it helps me navigate my way back to a healthier, happier, more productive me than I ever was before my illness.
Decluttering isn’t about making things tidy; it’s about letting go of what doesn’t matter to you so that you allow yourself to see and experience what does matter to you. It makes a difference in how you show up on the planet, and it’s a great way to empower yourself, to know yourself better and to make better, stronger decisions that lead to more peace, happiness, and fulfillment in your life.”
    More Alison Contributions
Alison has presented as an organization and productivity blogger for Manilla.com and has also been interviewed by US News & World Report, Woman’s World, Yahoo! Finance, and many other online publications for her DeClutter opinions. She also wrote her first book, How to Fail at Business, which shares lessons she learned owning her first business in 2011 and is toying with writing a new book. She has appeared on the Dr. Oz Show, the CBS Morning Show and the Mike Huckabee Show, as well as the NY Times, CNN.com, an internal MasterCard commercial – and you might even be able to spot her in the background as an extra on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Dr. Freed’s Adolescent Programs Grow Productive Lifetimes
Harmony And Self-Management Overview – She’s Worked Since 19 Years Old
Listen up! We all can learn a great deal about creating adolescent balance and harmony from this dedicated, engaging, experienced and delightfully compassionate mentor and therapist.
Jennifer Freed, Ph.D. is a psychotherapist, mediator, mentor and author with over 30 years’ experience working with youth in the context of deep roots in the Santa Barbara, California area. She began her contributions at age 19, running a peer counselor training program at Dos Pueblos High School; shortly after that, she worked for YouthWorks – connecting students for mission trips and community service activities.
    Her Turning Point
In 1999, just after the Columbine massacre, Dr. Freed started AHA! with Rendy Freedman, MFT (who became co-Executive Director), now serving over 3000 families in California. First, AHA! was a summer program mostly staffed by artists and social-emotional learning experts who volunteered to work with the youth. AHA! was soon invited to work with students at La Cuesta Continuation High School, then to Carpinteria and Santa Barbara High Schools.
The after-school program was then added to AHA!’s offerings. AHA!’s Peace Builders, AHA!’s newest program, was introduced in 2013.
Dr. Freed’s books include The Ultimate Personality Guide, Lessons from Stanley the Cat, and a series of Be Your Best Self workbooks used as specific guidelines in AHA! programs. She also authored the three-volume AHA! Method Book. In the works are PeaceQ, a book about peace-building; a book on women’s sexual wisdom; and another book about celebrating and transforming negative thoughts (Bad Thought Gremlins).
She has been writing poetry her whole adult life, and created two radio programs: Freed Up! – an Air America talk show that had thousands of listeners, and Signs of Change – aired on an AM station based in Arizona.
Measurable Attitude Results – Harmony Works
“We now have conclusive results for all our programs that they move the dial for our youth regarding social and emotional learning, intervening with bullying, and feeling more joy in their lives.”

Copper and Kryptopyrrole Details For Treatment Failure

A common problem in ADHD, behavior disorders, and hormonal depression is a genetic inability to control copper, zinc, manganese, and other trace metals in the body due to improper functioning of the metallothionine protein.  These patients are often deficient in trace metals, amino acids, and Vitamin B-6 and overloaded in others.  They must avoid supplements and “enriched” foods containing copper..

    Copper [Cu] Overview:
“Copper-overloaded depressives usually report that serotonin-enhancing antidepressants provide an improvement in moods, but they worsen anxiety. Benzodiazepines such as Klonopin and Xanax can be effective in reducing anxiety but are reported to have little effect on depression for this biotype. High-copper females are usually intolerant of birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy since these treatments increase copper levels in the blood. [96% of this biotype are women.]”[1]
Consider chronic fatigue [CFS], terrible PMS with PMDD, and pervasive irritation with profound anxiety down to the marrow of your bones.
    Walsh Kryptopyrrole [Kp] Overview:
“Pyrrole disorder typically involves high anxiety, poor behavioral control, a reading disorder, impaired immune function, and other troubling symptoms. We observe severe pyrrole levels in persons diagnosed with violent behaviors, depression, schizophrenia, and other severe mental disorders.
A significant number of undermethylated depression patients exhibit some degree of pyrrole disorder. Many persons with this combination of imbalances show high accomplishment throughout life, but report extreme internal anxiety and poor stress control along with depression. Since both undermethylation and pyrrole disorder present often with low serotonin activity, depression is usually more severe in these cases. Our database studies indicate persons with this hybrid condition are more likely to report suicidal thoughts compared to individuals with any other form of depression.”[1]

Love & Communication vs. Survival & Death
As a physician, I noticed some aspects of disease dynamics that lead me to consider microbial cognition. Consider this concept: metadarwinism – it’s about reconsidering Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” as an old process that pales into insignificance when compared to the love that microbiota, those microorganisms – for example, our gut friends in the microbiome – have for each other. Consider how they get together over millennia to create… yes, us.

We have identified a mechanism that integrates development and physiologic homeostasis – cell-cell interactions. Why not apply that mechanism to Evolutionary Biology as the long-term basis for phylogenetic change? Using that approach at the cell-molecular level offers the opportunity to determine how cellular composition has accommodated adaptation.[2] – Torday
When we think of evolution in terms of contemporary biologic phenotypes, we make the systematic error of reasoning backward from the present to the past. Yet reasoning after the fact, by definition, is illogical. All of biology is formed from and by cells, which emerged from the primordium 3-4 billion years ago, likely as primitive micelles formed from lipids. Such structures are semi-permeable, generating intracellular chemical gradients, a process referred to as chemiosmosis, ultimately allowing for the reduction of entropy within the cell, transiently circumventing the second Law of Thermodynamics. It was under these conditions that life began on Earth, initiated and perpetuated by the perennial competition between prokaryotes and eukaryotes, a battle which rages on to this day.[4] – Torday
Darwin’s great success was in making the subject of evolution user-friendly by providing a narrative that was simple and direct. Pleasing as it may be,
