In these opening verses of Philippians, we read of Paul and study about his life and how he was obedient to God to travel wherever he was called. His obedience to God to travel to Philippi, reaped a reward of eternal value. Are we allowing God to place us where He wants us to so we can be used for His eternal purpose?

We are continuing to study the godly characteristics of Paul. Throughout the book of Philippians, we see that Paul placed his confidence in God alone. He was confident that God would give him the strength he needed for any situation and he was confident that God would finish the work that he had started in Paul. May we be confident in God and confident in what He will do in our lives because He is a good Father.

In this study through Philippians we continue studying the characteristics of Paul that we can learn from. Paul always gave thanks to God, giving thanks was a priority for him. Paul was also a man of prayer. In this teaching we dig deeper learning about giving thanks like Paul did and about praying for others.

Throughout the book of Philippians we see many Christ like characteristics of Paul. Over the next few weeks we will discover 10 characteristics of Paul and we can ask ourselves if others can see this in our lives. In this teaching we cover the first characteristic: Being a bondservant of Christ. As a bondservant we simply choose to serve God out of our love for Him and we become His forever. Do other see me as a bondservant of Christ? Am I serving God simply out of love and counting the cost to follow Him wholeheartedly?

Who or what robs us of our joy? In this teaching we study five things that can steal our joy: the devil, unconfessed sin, self-centeredness, anxiety, and comparison. As we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can find true joy in Him and not let any of these things rob us of joy.

This week we continue to look at the theme of Philippians, which is Joy! We read the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16 and how they continued to have joy even in chains.

At our Evening Retreat, Lenya Heitzig shares from Psalm 37:4-5. She takes a deeper look at what it means to delight in God and fully trusting Him in everything. We will see God do amazing things when we are looking for Him to work, seeking Him, delighting in Him, and trusting Him with all of our heart.

In Ephesians 6, we are told to put on the armor of God. We will not be able to stand against the wiles of the enemy unless we have on the whole armor of God. The armor God provides for us to put on is the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes with the preparation of the Gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit.
