Are you ready for a bold statement? Here goes: Our God, Jesus Christ, is the King of the World. And no—not in some spiritual, theoretical, or “far off future” sense. He is currently enthroned, ruling the world with grace and truth. That’s the truth. And that truth should change everything for us. Which brings us to a second bold statement: Most Christians don’t know or don’t live like this is the case. You see, when we realize the full weight of the fact that Jesus is King—how it happened and what it means—we will never see our faith the same way again.

The phrase “The Kingdom of God” is one of the most spoken in all of Scripture. Which makes it all the more confounding that it’s also one of the most misunderstood ideas in all of Scripture. So what is “The Kingdom of God” that Jesus initiated, and what does it mean for us?

Christmas and Easter. The big Christian holidays. They celebrate what Jesus accomplished on Earth—birth, death, resurrection. But what about his life? How would things change if the years between the cradle and cross mattered just as much to the understanding of our faith?

“The best is yet to come!” This statement has often been a popular rallying cry, especially for the Church. It’s a declaration rooted in the belief that God has great things in store for his people just beyond the horizon. And it’s a sentiment we’ve shared and stated here at Cornerstone...but, not anymore. Of course, we still believe the future is bright. But who has time for what’s to come when we’re too busy being blessed by what is? You see, the best isn’t “yet to come”—it’s here and now! God is on the move, and he is doing a new thing now, in the midst of our present circumstances. Instead of focusing on the future, we’re determined to follow God’s lead, right here and right now.

Our new facility will be a dream come true—but not because of the aesthetics or design. You see, what’s so great isn’t the place, but the people. The people this building will help us become. The people this building will help us welcome. We’re building for a you, not a view.

Our vision is pretty big—bigger than anything we could accomplish through our own skill and willpower. So thanks be to God we don’t have to achieve it on our own! When we partner our obedience and resources with God, our natural means can produce supernatural returns.

“A vision without a plan is a hallucination.” We have big dreams for our new facility—what it will look like, how it will expand our ministry. But they must be more than dreams. Church, we have to believe and move the vision God has given us from rough draft to reality.

We’re not foreigners to the faithfulness of God. Jesus has delivered us through obstacles and trials time and time again. And that faithfulness needs to be celebrated! So before we take a step into the future, we will stop in the present and praise Him for His faithfulness in the past.
The last couple of years have been anything but easy. A worldwide pandemic, tumultuous elections, racial and social tensions…it’s been quite a ride. Now generally, January is a time of optimism—people are hopeful, believing the best about the future. But all of that craziness we’ve endured has led to an understandable unease about the upcoming year. You may be one of the millions who are wondering: “Will 2022 really be any different? How can I be confident about my future in the middle of so much uncertainty?” The good news? You don't have to limp into the new year with anxiety. God has given you permission—permission to hope, dream, and believe in the new year. No matter what comes…this year will be your year!

When you get a permission slip, it acts as a form of consent—it’s an “OK” to take action. And when it comes to this year being your year, that’s exactly what you have to do: act! That’s the way to make 2022 your year: by making it your year. Take action! Make the choices, make the decisions, and make the sacrifices you know will lead to a fulfilling future this year!

After what we experienced the last two years, it makes sense to expect the worst to happen. COVID-19, inflation, job losses…everyone is worried. So what do you do with your worry and your “what if’s?” this year? How do you stay confident while at the same time recognizing the reality of the world? The answer may scare you and surprise you—but also give you hope that even the worst this year throws your way cannot shake your confidence and optimism.

So why should we be so confident about the future? It’s simple. Our “why” for our confidence is actually a “Who”—Jesus is the sole reason for our optimism! You see, our permission slip to view the future with hope is signed and validated by Jesus himself. We can boldly and confidently step into the future, knowing that Jesus himself goes before us preparing the way.

Remember being young and asking for permission to leave the classroom? And then hearing those magic words that granted your request? “Yes, you may.” How would things change in your life if you believed that Jesus has granted you permission to live life to the full? That in fact, Jesus has always led with Yes—not No? God is saying that it’s time to regain your confidence and dream again, because in Jesus, God’s promises are always “Yes and Amen!”
