God has always wanted you to be his child.  Sin interfered.  Not to be deterred, God overcame sin for you- and then united you with him and his overcoming forgiveness in baptism.  You are his and he has a purpose for you.  Whether you know it or not, he always has.

Isaiah 49:1-7

Becoming a child, Jesus did not shun the importance of childhood.  He was vulnerable, helpless, and in need of care.  In his being, we see an example of our own posture before God.  This child was born to save what was otherwise vulnerable, helpless and in need of care.

Matthew 2:1-12

Believers are called to have faith like a child. How does that look? Children are eager, trusting, curious…and also tempestuous, volatile and self-centered. Are we supposed to be all of those things? Obviously not, we are called to have a childlike faith, not a childish faith. Let’s receive faith from our God in the life-giving way he has intended, children of God looking for all good things from their heavenly Father.

Matthew 2:13-23

There is meaning behind all of it – all the celebrations, all the traditions, all the parties. The search to find meaning will lead some to despair. For us, it is a search that leads to Jesus, born for us. He is the “more” that many are seeking. He is the “yes” to God’s promises to all people. And we learn that he has been searching for us this whole time.
