We all have worked on learning something: a skill, a sport, a game, a trade. As followers of Jesus, we are called to spiritual training as well. We intentionally work on our lives of faith so that we might be a part of God's action in the world. Being in the Word builds us up in Christ. We exercise our faith by showing love to our neighbor, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, who lives within us.

God has given His people incredible promises and gifts. Unfortunately there are many things in this world that discourage us from excitement and focus on God as first priority in our lives. God's command through Haggai is direct and simple to turn us back to Him and the exciting opportunity to be part of building His kingdom.

The account of Jonah is well-known, at least the beginning part of it. The “swallowed by a big fish” part. There is much more to it — it teaches us about a God who has compassion on even the hardest people to love.

Paul’s missionary journeys were challenging. He faced all sorts of obstacles, yet never wavered. His ministry bore amazing results. He finally reached Rome. This was a finish line of sorts. Paul had an inkling that he would never travel again and he was right. Until the time when he was martyred, he fulfilled his calling to speak to people about Jesus.

Today we meet some unsung heroes--some people who are barely known in the story of the Church's incredible growth. Most of us will be unsung heroes in the growth of God's Kingdom, but even unsung heroes are an important part of the team!
