As we draw near to the end of the year we will study the two great foundational components of the Fear of the LORD. The title of this introductory lesson is, “The Foundation for Fearing the LORD is Our Faith and Love for Him.” As we grow in our knowledge of who Jesus is and we are impacted by our understanding of His great love for us we are moved to yield our lives to His authority in reverential fear. As our knowledge of Jesus grows our faith and belief in His sovereignty and authority over every aspect of our life grows. As we recognize His absolute power over all, we wisely humble ourselves before Him who has created us and calls us into His service. In the same way as we grow in our understanding of His boundless love for us,in the sacrifice of Himself, we willing yield our lives to Him and to His will. Today, and in the next several weeks, we will discover the relationship between growing our faith and love for Him, so that we will rightly fear Him and humbly serve Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

Our words are extremely powerful! They can crush the human soul leading to physical and spiritual death. Our words can also be extremely powerful in healing the spiritual heart, restoring the soul, and inspiring the one who receives words that edify and encourage. We must hate the perverse and unwholesome words so common in this human experience. We must hate the ugly habits and self indulging desires within us that spew out such evil and destructive words. We must be intentional in utilizing the repentance process to renew our minds and our mouths! We must be a people following after the faith, mindset, and example of the LORD Jesus.

The Scriptures teach us to be every checking our understanding and motives regarding our thought life and our ways of living. Just as the LORD has spoken, “All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the LORD weight the motives.” He also says that, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Brethren, in fearing the LORD we must to know how He defines evil and we must know what the “Evil Way” is. Once we have a working definition and understanding of what evil is we must turn our hearts and minds from such things and give ourselves to listening and responding to God’s call to holiness and righteousness of the truth! This morning we will search the Scriptures to get a working understanding how to hate evil and embrace the good!

Today we will step back and examine another definition of “Fearing the LORD.” This morning’s sermon is titled, “The Fear of the LORD is to Hate Evil- Pride and Arrogance!” We have already defined the biblical definitions in the sermon dated March 12th of this year. Today we will examine the reason why the LORD says we must hate the evil of pride and arrogance. Both pride and arrogance are destructive to the one who is prideful and arrogant and it is also extremely destructive to every human institution and relationship. In today’s sermon we will validate this statement and look at the positive opposite of pride and arrogance. We will discover that humility is powerful in pleasing the LORD and moving His hand to bless and provide for those who choose to hate evil and love humility.
