This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for November 3rd, 2020.
The American Academy of Pediatrics reports more than 61,000 children in the U.S. were diagnosed with Covid-19 last week — more than any other week during the pandemic. 853,635 children have been diagnosed this year, representing 11.1% of all U.S. cases.
One struggling world hot spot is Belgium. Strict new lockdowns are in place, and many hospitals are overwhelmed. In one city between one-fifth and one-quarter of medical staff were sick or quarantining, and even those who are positive but asymptomatic are being told to show up for work.
Germany began a month-long partial shutdown yesterday. Restaurants, bars, theaters, and other leisure facilities have been shut down. It’s considered lockdown light because, schools, non-essential shops and hairdressers are allowed to stay open. The government said last week authorities currently cannot trace the source of three-quarters of infections.
A non-peer-reviewed study by the UK coronavirus immunology consortium suggests T-cell immunity against the virus is likely to stay in most adults six months after primary infection. Plus, levels of T-cell immunity are higher in patients with symptoms.
Want job security? Become a nurse. Medical administrators are having trouble finding them and it’s gotten very competitive between hospitals. We’re talking signing bonuses of $15,000 and pay in some places going up to $5,000/week. Contract nurses willing to travel are in particularly hot demand.
The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Bon Homme, SD. Norton, KS. San Saba, TX. Buffalo, SD. Wells, ND. Wallace, KS. Ellsworth, KS. Carter, MT. Sheridan, KS. And Bennett, SD.
