Malachi, the last prophet of the Old Testament, delivered a message of both warning and hope to the people of Israel. He called them to repentance, exposing their half-hearted worship and corruption, and warned of a coming day of judgment for the wicked. However, Malachi also promised a future of healing and restoration for those who fear and honor God, proclaiming that the "Sun of Righteousness" would rise with healing in its wings. This prophecy pointed forward to the coming Messiah, Jesus, who would bring spiritual healing and renewal to God's people.

When life feels like an uphill climb, Jesus shows up on the mountain, giving us a glimpse of His glory to strengthen us for the journey ahead. Though we face struggles and suffering, Jesus is with us every step of the way, offering His strength, grace, and hope. Ultimately, He leads us through the climb, assuring us that the glory of His resurrection is the destination that awaits us.

When Jesus showed up at the wedding, He turned an ordinary celebration into a miraculous encounter of grace. When He showed up at the synagogue, He brought healing, restoring broken encounters between humanity and God. When He showed up at the lake, He called His disciples to a life-changing encounter with His mission. 

Today, we come to a moment where Jesus shows up in our conflicts, and His teaching challenges us in ways that are just as radical. In Luke 6, Jesus invites us to love our enemies, to bless those who curse us, and to forgive when we’ve been wronged. This isn’t easy, but it’s precisely where the power of the Kingdom of God is revealed. Jesus’ words in this passage teach us that conflict, when met with His love, becomes an opportunity for transformation—for us, and for the world around us. As we explore this teaching, let’s open our hearts to what it means for Jesus to show up in our conflicts today, and how His love can change everything.

In Luke 5:1-11, Jesus calls out to Simon Peter, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” These words change everything for Simon and the other disciples, as they are called to leave their old lives behind and step into something entirely new. Jesus doesn't just call them to follow His teachings, but to follow His life—His mission, His grace, His purpose. The call to “Follow Me” is a call to leave behind our own plans and to trust in His plan for us, even when it’s uncertain or uncomfortable. It’s a call to step into faith, to allow Jesus to shape our hearts and guide our steps, no matter where He leads. 

In our daily lives, the call to "Follow Me" remains just as powerful. Jesus calls us out of our self-reliance, our distractions, and our fears, and invites us to follow Him in faith. This isn’t about knowing all the details ahead of time, but trusting that Jesus, who called the disciples on that lakeshore, will lead us with love, grace, and wisdom. No matter where we find ourselves today—whether in joy, struggle, or uncertainty—Jesus is still calling us to follow Him. And as we do, He promises to make us part of His mission to share His love with the world, transforming our ordinary lives into extraordinary testimonies of His grace.

In Hebrews 2:14-18, the author emphasizes that Jesus, by becoming fully human, shared in our suffering and death to destroy the power of the devil and free humanity from the fear of death. As both Savior and High Priest, He experienced temptation and suffering, enabling Him to sympathize with our weaknesses and offer mercy and grace. From a Lutheran law-gospel perspective, this passage reveals that through Christ's incarnation and sacrifice, the law's demands are fulfilled in Him, while the gospel offers the free gift of salvation, rescuing us from sin, death, and the devil. Jesus' life and death not only fulfill God's justice but also extend His grace to all who trust in Him.
