In Chapter 27, Paul sets sail for Rome. After the initial difficulty, Paul attempts to discourage sailing further because of how dangerous the journey will be. They press on anyway. Quickly, it seems like all hope is lost, and their lives will be lost at sea. It is then that Paul assures the crew they will be delivered. How does he know? It is the Lord's will for Paul to stand before Caesar in Rome.

This week, we saw Paul recounting his conversion with King Agrippa. Paul had no interest in getting into any finer points of theology- he wanted King Agrippa to come to know Jesus. Paul's heart for the gospel is one the Church should replicate. Our desire is for everyone to come and know Christ Jesus.

The pleasures of life can often be a distraction. We like comfort. We want entertainment. We work for a reward. These pursuits often sit and distract us from Christ. As we pick up in Acts 26 this week, we find Paul before the council and Agrippa. Paul takes this time to testify about his regeneration on the road to Damascus. Paul wasn't looking for Christ to save him, he was doing the opposite. Paul wanted to persecute the Church. Instead, Christ opened his eyes to turn from darkness to light. Salvation is of the Lord, and he will save whom He desires.

How do we conceptualize the Glory of God? Do we see it in the proper light? Consider the mountains- is God not bigger? Is he not more grand? When we consider God's Glory, we not only don't have to fear others, we don't have to fear anything (other than him). Last night, Daniel taught our second midweek- "God is Glorious, So You Don't Have to Fear Others."

Yesterday, as we continued Paul's trial before King Agrippa, there was a noticeable amount of elegance. Paul is in shackles before Agrippa, Bernice, military tribunes, and prominent men of the city. Still, in all their pomp, Paul's riches are more. Why? Because he knows Christ Jesus.

It seems like there is always something going on that can cause us to be stressed out. Whether it's our health, our friends and family, our jobs, or literally anything, scripture would encourage us to lay those things down and look to the Lord. Paul can leave prison; all he would have to do was recant. However, he won't. Why? Paul knows the truth of the Gospel- Christ died and rose again. His message for the council and every trial he undergoes is the same- look to Jesus.

Our journey through Acts picks up with Paul on trial (again) before Felix. Rather than try to inflate his ego, Paul speaks plainly to Felix- he is on trial for testifying the truth about Christ Jesus. He isn't interested in Felix's ego because he is interested in his soul.
