Dallas Cowboys Grades from their 34-24 Week 5 loss against the Green Bay Packers focuses on the Dallas Cowboys’ offense, Jason Garrett, the defense, Brett Maher, Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott. The Cowboys tried to make it a game, but failed in the end and are now 3-2.

The Cowboys’ offense looked really bad (at least to start) for the second week in a row under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Dak Prescott finished 27/44 for 463 yards and 2 TDs but he threw 3 interceptions, making a fourth quarter comeback next to impossible. The Packers have now won 8 of the last 9 meetings.

The Cowboys’ defense did not play well, especially Leighton Vander Esch. LVE missed tackles and his play was mimicked by the entire defense, earning himself a D in Tom’s grade book. The defense has no answers for Packers RB Aaron Jones, who racked up over 100 yards rushing in addition to his four touchdowns and 75 yards receiving. Jaylon Smith and Dorance Armstrong both sacked Rodgers, but ultimately came up short.

Jason Garrett announced that in addition to knee and back injuries, DeMarcus Lawrence is dealing with a bruised heel. He did practice on Thursday and is likely to play on Sunday against the Packers. Newly-promoted WR Ventell Bryant could play as well as he’s now on the 53-man roster. The Cowboys like his special teams play.

The Cowboys’ offense looked really bad for the first time in 2019 under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. They couldn’t get anything going in the air or on the ground. Dak Prescott finished 22/33 for 223 yards before he threw an interception on a hail mary attempt on the final play of the game. Ezekiel Elliott had 35 yards on the ground on 18 attempts, an average of 1.9 yards per carry which is the 2nd worst in a game in his career.

The Cowboys’ defense played well & didn’t allow a touchdown in the game, but the lack of offensive production resulted in the Cowboys’ first loss of the 2019 NFL season. Robert Quinn had a monster night, racking up 2 sacks which would have been 3 if it wasn’t for a penalty. Leighton Vander Esch was all over the place with 11 tackles on defense. Chidobe Awuzie got an interception early in the game, but none of this was enough for the Cowboys to seal a victory against a New Orleans Saints team that was without Drew Brees.

The defense played solid but the offense could not get things going at all, scoring only 10 points. The Cowboys have been hit with injuries at the start of the season with Xavier Woods, Antwaun Woods and Amari Cooper all finding themselves on the Cowboys injury report.

Amari Cooper’s injuries have bounced from battling plantar fasciitis on his left foot to dealing with a sore right ankle. Cooper had an MRI done Wednesday on his right ankle and the Cowboys medical staff are pleased with the reports. Despite Cooper being listed as “limited” in workouts after experiencing soreness, the Cowboys have “no concern” about his ability to go on Sunday vs. the Saints. Xavier Woods and Tavon Austin both returned to practice this week as well. Austin has been out since Week 1 after suffering a concussion vs. the New York Giants.
