The Cowboys have been hit with injuries at the start of the season with Xavier Woods, Antwaun Woods and Amari Cooper all finding themselves on the Cowboys injury report.
Amari Cooper’s injuries have bounced from battling plantar fasciitis on his left foot to dealing with a sore right ankle. Cooper had an MRI done Wednesday on his right ankle and the Cowboys medical staff are pleased with the reports. Despite Cooper being listed as “limited” in workouts after experiencing soreness, the Cowboys have “no concern” about his ability to go on Sunday vs. the Saints. Tom Downey will give you the full Cowboys injury update and give his players to watch heading into DAL vs. NO.
Xavier Woods and Tavon Austin both returned to practice this week as well. Austin has been out since Week 1 after suffering a concussion vs. the New York Giants. Xavier Woods sprained his ankle in Week 2 and was expected to be out for 4-6 weeks. Luckily for the Cowboys, Woods is primed for a comeback in time to cover Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas.
Here’s a full injury update for the Cowboys:
Tavon Austin - Concussion, Limited
Amari Cooper - Ankle - Limited
Tyrone Crawford - Hip - DNP
Michael Gallup - Knee - OUT
Kavon Frazier - Achilles - Limited
Luke Gifford - Ankle - Limited
Zack Martin - Back - Limited/DNP
Antwaun Woods - Knee - DNP
Xavier Woods - Ankle - Limited
Dallas enters NFL Week 4 undefeated, but will have to travel to New Orleans for an NFC showdown on Sunday Night Football. Drew Brees will not be on the field after undergoing thumb surgery that will keep him sidelined for 6 to 8 weeks. With Brees out, all eyes will be Teddy Bridewater. We’ll compare Dak Prescott vs. Teddy Bridgewater and Tom will give his keys to containing the Saints offense. Looking back to last year, Jourdan Lewis played a big role in containing Alvin Kamara and holding him to just 3.8 yards a touch. Could we see the Cowboys run dime defense again this year?
